👋 Meet Michael Timreck!

Michael started working with Tawas City on a contractual basis in 2022 and joined the City as a full-time employee at the beginning of 2026. Since then, he has kept busy wearing several hats, serving as our Zoning Administrator, Code Enforcement Officer, and Utilities Compliance Administrator. 🏛️📋

Michael also holds an S-4 water license 💧 and is always willing to lend a hand to our Department of Public Works when needed. His versatility and willingness to help wherever he is needed make him a valuable member of the Tawas City team! 👏

This week: Dave Seyfried - Battalion Chief, Medical First Responder, and Diver with the Tawas City Fire Department

With more than 50 years of experience in the fire service, Dave is a true cornerstone of our department. Throughout his distinguished career, he has witnessed tremendous changes in firefighting techniques, equipment, and emergency response practices, while remaining committed to the core values of service, teamwork, and dedication.

We are proud to recognize Dave for his remarkable career, enduring dedication, and the lasting impact he has made on both our organization and the firefighters who follow in his footsteps. 🚒❤️

UPDATE - As of July 23, 2026, the water quality has returned to normal levels and the advisory has been lifted.

We have beach advisories again this week. The District Health Department No 2 has already resampled the water and will have results tomorrow morning.

‼️UPDATE: Thursday, July 23, 2026

Advisories have been lifted for the following beaches:

• Gateway Park, Iosco County
• Shoreline Park, Iosco County
• East Tawas Park, Iosco County
• Harrisville State Park, Alcona County

Earlier water samples indicated temporarily elevated E. coli levels. Recent testing confirms that E. coli concentrations are now within safe limits for recreational activities and full body contact.

‼️Public Health Advisory: Wednesday, July 22, 2026
Levels of E. coli have been found at local beaches in Alcona and Iosco Counties.

Levels of E. coli bacteria were found to exceed State standards for daily maximums for the water sampling conducted on July 22nd in the bathing beach waters at:

• Gateway Park, Iosco County
• Shoreline Park, Iosco County
• East Tawas Park, Iosco County
• Harrisville State Park, Alcona County

It is advised that all persons avoid any activity involving full body contact with these waters until sample results have indicated that E. coli levels have returned to acceptable standards. Other beach related activities, as well as other beaches along the Lake Huron shoreline in Alcona and Iosco County are not affected by this advisory. 🚒 Employee Spotlight: Raymond Bruning II

Ray is a dedicated member of the Tawas City Fire Department who is always ready to answer the call, whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, or water rescue incidents.

Service runs deep in Ray's family. Three of his sons are also members of the fire department, making emergency response a true family commitment. Together, they exemplify the values of dedication, teamwork, and community service that are at the heart of our department.

After starting with the Tawas City Department of Public Works as a part-time employee, Dominic joined the team full-time in 2025 and has quickly become an essential part of our department.

Dominic brings valuable technical expertise, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on any challenge.

🚧 Shoreline Park Playground Temporary Closure 🚧

Beginning Monday, July 13, 2026, the play structure at Shoreline Park will be closed to the public while the City replaces the aging rubberized play surface.

This improvement will provide a safer, more durable play area for children to enjoy for years to come. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important project.

Please help us keep everyone safe by respecting the closure until the work is finished. We'll share updates and let everyone know as soon as the playground is ready to reopen!
