Just a reminder that tomorrow morning, Dove season begins, and with it… the sound of gunfire. Below is the Texas statute concerning the discharge of a weapon. Good luck to all the hunters, stay safe!

Texas Local Gov. Code
Sec. 229.002. REGULATION OF DISCHARGE OF WEAPON. A municipality may not apply a regulation relating to the discharge of fi****ms or other weapons in the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the municipality or in an area annexed by the municipality after September 1, 1981, if the firearm or other weapon is:

(1) a shotgun, air rifle or pistol, BB gun, or bow and arrow discharged:

(A) on a tract of land of 10 acres or more and more than 150 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

(B) in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of the tract; or

(2) a center fire or rim fire rifle or pistol of any caliber discharged:

(A) on a tract of land of 50 acres or more and more than 300 feet from a residence or occupied building located on another property; and

(B) in a manner not reasonably expected to cause a projectile to cross the boundary of the tract.

Texas Parks & Wildlife Code § 62.0121 — “Discharge of Firearm Across Property Line.”

§ 62.0121(b): “A person commits an offense if:

(1) the person, while hunting or engaging in recreational shooting, knowingly discharges a firearm; and
(2) the projectile from the firearm travels across a property line.”

And… DO NOT TRESPASS!

Dolly used to say, “It takes a lot of money to look this cheap,” but I don’t think this is what she meant!
Our suspect was trying to be cheap by avoiding the dump and it is definitely going to cost him a lot of money!

You can dump… but you can’t hide.
Apparently, somebody thought they could make a quick trip to the Expo Center dumpster, drop off some unwanted items, and ride off into the sunset.
Unfortunately for them, the dumpster has eyes.
If you recognize these folks, their vehicle, or their “donations,” let us know.
You can dump it, but you can’t hide it.

Next stop…the future, but if you pass a school bus you’ll have to stop on the shoulder with one of our deputies first. You might have a time machine, but you can’t go back and undo a bad decision. First time offenders face a fine up to $1250. GREAT SCOTT!!!

A huge THANK YOU to Kerry Davis of Dark Angel Medical, LLC for an exceptional day of training yesterday.
Our deputies, along with several deputies from Williamson County Constable Precinct 1, participated in an intense force-on-force training exercise designed to test what happens when the shooting stops and the real work begins.
This wasn’t a classroom where everything is neat, quiet, and predictable. Our deputies were actively engaging threats, making decisions under stress, and then immediately transitioning from fight mode to lifesaving mode.
Once the threat was addressed, they had to locate casualties, assess injuries, establish priorities, and provide emergency trauma care — all while operating in a chaotic, high-stress environment.
We treated gunshot wounds, massive hemorrhages, sucking chest wounds, and variety of other traumatic injuries. The goal wasn’t just to know what to do, but to learn how to do it when your heart is pounding, your environment is changing, and there is no time to stop and think about what the textbook says.
That’s what makes training like this so valuable.
The fight doesn’t necessarily end when the threat is down. Sometimes that’s when the most important part begins.
Kerry brought an incredible level of knowledge, realism, and professionalism to the training. His ability to create stressful, realistic scenarios while teaching the skills necessary to keep someone alive was invaluable.
Our deputies walked away with more than just another training day under their belts. They walked away with experience they can draw upon when seconds matter and there may not be a second chance.
Thank you, Kerry and Ross, for pushing our people outside their comfort zones and helping them become better prepared to protect themselves, their partners, and the public.
You can’t manufacture experience, but you can create realistic training. That’s exactly what we got!

*BE WEATHER AWARE*
A front is forecasted to move into our area by Saturday, bringing with it a high of only 92°. We have spoken with the County Judge Steve Snell who assures us there is enough sand for all the bridges in the area should that should become necessary. Also remember the “3 Ps” …pipes, plants, and pets.
The forecast also shows a chance of rain, but let’s be honest…it’ll probably just make the outdoors feel like a crockpot.
Make sure to hydrate so you don’t die-drate!
