We love seeing our Apiary Program in action! 🐝

This morning, Queen Marillion had the opportunity to meet with Jenna from the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food! We learned how state inspectors evaluate honey bee colonies and what they look for during inspections.

It was awesome to learn directly from the people who help protect Utah's beekeeping industry. We're always looking for ways to improve our knowledge so we can provide the best possible service to our Uintah Basin customers and their bees. Thanks Jenna!

Located in Salt Lake City, Frog Bench Farms is dedicated to growing high-quality, sustainably farmed produce for local chef partners, farm stands, and community members. Like many producers in Utah, winter is a slower growing season, meaning business experiences temporary slowdowns.

In 2025, Frog Bench Farms became a recipient of the Utah Food Security Grant. Through this opportunity, they were able to purchase a commercial freeze dryer, which has significantly expanded their business, increased their processing capacity by four times, and made it possible to offer their products year-round.

UDAF is opening applications for Utah’s next independent medical cannabis pharmacy, as required by House Bill 54 (HB54) passed during the 2025 legislative session.

Interested parties are encouraged to review the official application guidelines and requirements. The application period opens on August 3 and will close on September 2, 2026. After applications are reviewed for eligibility by UDAF, the Specialized Product Authority Licensing Board will select one applicant for licensure. The new license must be issued prior to January 1, 2027.

During each session, we'll cover the Utah Food Security Grant program, including eligibility requirements, eligible projects, and tips for submitting a successful application.

UDAF is excited to announce the launch of the expanded Utah Food Security Grant — a historic $11 million investment to strengthen Utah’s food system and increase access to locally grown and raised food across the state.

Through this five-year initiative, Utah farmers, ranchers, food processors, distributors, and eligible organizations will have new opportunities to expand production, improve processing and storage, strengthen distribution, and reach new markets.

This investment will help build a more resilient food supply chain, support rural communities, and create more connections between Utah producers and consumers.

UDAF Commissioner Kelly Pehrson kicked off the International Livestock Identification Association (ILIA) Conference today, welcoming attendees from across the country!

In his opening remarks, Commissioner Pehrson highlighted the vital role of brand inspection, disease traceability, and livestock identification in protecting producers and preserving confidence in the industry.

Despite a challenging year for Utah agriculture, from severe drought to devastating wildfires, he reaffirmed UDAF’s commitment to standing beside our producers and building trust every step of the way!
