SUBJECT: Officer Involved Traffic Incident

TAYLORSVILLE, NC — On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the Taylorsville Police Department was notified of a misdemeanor charge of failure to report a traffic accident issued against Officer Sgt. Carson Fleming, relating to an on-duty incident on June 14th, 2026.
The department is fully aware of the circumstances surrounding the incident. Preliminary information indicates that the officer did initiate an internal incident report regarding the minor traffic matter and attempted to report the accident to NC State Highway Patrol. The current charge appears to stem from a procedural misunderstanding regarding the timing or specific reporting requirements under the law, rather than any attempt to bypass proper channels.
Officer Fleming has been entirely cooperative with the investigating agency throughout this process.
"We hold our officers to high standards, but we also support them through due process when technical misunderstandings arise," said Mike Millsaps, Taylorsville Police Chief. "Officer Fleming took steps to report this minor incident, and we are confident that a clear review of the timeline and facts will resolve this matter quickly.
Because this involves an ongoing legal review of a personnel matter, the department will limit further comment until the issue is formally resolved.”

ARREST MADE AT DRIVER LICENSE CHECKPOINT

On 07/03/2026, officers with the Taylorsville Police Department conducted a driver license checkpoint as part of the department's ongoing commitment to roadway safety and traffic law enforcement.

During the checkpoint, an adult male refused to identify himself during a lawful investigation. Officers later identified the individual as Aaron St. Clair of Taylorsville. The subject also stated that he identified as a "sovereign citizen." Personal beliefs or self-identification do not exempt individuals from complying with North Carolina law or lawful orders from law enforcement.

Mr. St. Clair was arrested and charged with:

-Misdemeanor Resisting a Public Officer
-Misdemeanor No Operator's License

He was transported to the Alexander County Detention Center for processing and later issued a $1500.00 secured bond

The Taylorsville Police Department appreciates the cooperation of the many motorists who complied with the checkpoint and helped make the operation safe and efficient.

All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

As you celebrate the Fourth of July, the Taylorsville Police Department would like to remind everyone that most aerial fireworks are illegal for personal use in North Carolina.

North Carolina law generally allows only non explosive, ground based fireworks, such as fountains, sparklers, smoke devices, and other novelty items. Fireworks that leave the ground or explode including bottle rockets, Roman candles, firecrackers, and aerial shells are prohibited for consumer use.

Illegal fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires, and property damage. We encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly and enjoy professional fireworks displays whenever possible.

If you choose to use legal fireworks:

* Follow all manufacturer instructions.

* Keep children and pets at a safe distance.

* Have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher nearby.

* Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs.
