Due to the excessive heat, the Taylorville Fire Department will be open as a cooling center from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the remainder of the week.

If you do not have access to air conditioning or a safe way to escape the heat, please feel free to stop by the fire station and cool off.

Please stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

Our Public Health Administrator, Dr. Chad Anderson, and Director of Environmental Health, Joe Torres, have been busy learning, connecting, and bringing new ideas back to Christian County!

They recently attended the IAFP Conference in New Orleans, where they connected with food safety professionals from across the country and learned about the latest practices and developments in food protection.

They also traveled to Vineland, New Jersey, to meet with the City of Vineland Health Department and discuss the FDA Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards and Federal Food Code.

CCHD currently meets 3 of the 9 FDA Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards, and we're excited to have the City of Vineland Health Department mentoring us as we work toward meeting additional standards!

We love seeing our team invest in professional development, build partnerships, and bring that knowledge home to make our food safety program even stronger!

Great work, Dr. Anderson and Joe!

It’s Community Health Worker Week!

Today, we’re celebrating Tahnee, our Community Health Worker at the Christian County Health Department!

Community Health Workers play an important role in connecting people with the resources, services, and support they need to live healthier lives. They meet people where they are, build relationships, help navigate systems, provide education, and serve as a trusted connection between our community and health services.

But rather than us telling you what a Community Health Worker does, let Tahnee tell you! Watch her video to hear more about her role and the difference she makes every day.

We’re so grateful for Tahnee and all that she does for the individuals, families, and communities we serve!

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today, we’re celebrating some of the very important four legged members of the Christian County Health Department family!

Our staff may spend their days caring for the health of our community, but when we get home, these pups are the ones keeping us happy, entertained, and on our toes!

Meet some of the CCHD staff dogs and one porch goose. We think they’re pretty adorable and we’re pretty sure they deserve a little extra love (and maybe a treat!) today.

Every Donation Can Make a Difference.

Yesterday, some of our Christian County Health Department team members rolled up their sleeves and donated blood at the Taylorville Fire House and we’re proud to be part of a community that gives back when help is needed most.

The need for blood is especially urgent right now. The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history, as blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low. This emergency shortage can have a direct impact on patients who depend on blood and blood products every day.

If you’re eligible to donate, now is the time to take action. Your donation could help someone facing an emergency, undergoing surgery, battling illness, or simply needing a lifesaving transfusion.

One donation can help save lives. American Red Cross Blood Donors

Not sure where or when you can donate? Check with the American Red Cross to find the next blood drive near you and make an appointment to give.

Thank you to everyone who gives the gift of life — and to our community for continuing to show up for one another.
