Due to the excessive heat, the Taylorville Fire Department will be open as a cooling center from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the remainder of the week.

If you do not have access to air conditioning or a safe way to escape the heat, please feel free to stop by the fire station and cool off.

Please stay hydrated, limit time outdoors, and check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

Safe Passage – Giving Back to Our Community

Tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., our Safe Passage program will be giving back to those in need.

We have a variety of nice children’s clothing, jackets in many sizes, brand-new comforters and blankets, along with other items available to help individuals and families who may need a little extra support.

We also continue to have our Safe Passage goodie bags ready for those who make the courageous decision to take that first step toward sobriety and treatment.

None of this would be possible without the kindness of our community. Your generosity allows us to help people when they need it most.

Here is some recent data collected from our radar speed sign on Bidwell Street. We appreciate everyone who is slowing down, and most importantly, please watch for our children. We will keep the sign at this location a little longer before moving it to another area.

Through grant funding, we also have additional officers conducting traffic enforcement throughout the day in various areas of Taylorville.

A reminder that West Market Street, from Cheney Street to Houston Street, is not a place for racing or excessive speed. Officers have been actively monitoring this area, vehicles have cited and identified.

Our goal is not simply to issue citations it is to prevent accidents and keep our community safe. Thank you for slowing down and looking out for one another.

Yesterday was another wonderful day of giving in our community.

Thank you to all of our generous donors who continue to support the Taylorville Police Department and law enforcement partners who create our calendars. Your support helped provide our children with safety coloring books that promote positive interactions with law enforcement.

We also want to thank our citizens who continue to support our bicycle program. Angelina was all smiles when she received her bike, and later we had the pleasure of seeing her riding around town with her friends and family.
