North Tazewell Volunteer Fire Department continues to take steps to strengthen our readiness and better serve our community. Fire Chief Brad C. Lott, along with Gina Tye of the Office of Emergency Management, recently attended the TEEX 16-hour course, MGT-319: Medical Countermeasures: POD, Planning, and Response, at the East Tennessee Regional Health Office in Knoxville. This training focuses on planning, coordination, and response operations related to Points of Dispensing, which may be used during a public health emergency or large-scale community health crisis. While fire departments are often associated with fires, crashes, and emergency response, today’s fire service also plays an important role in community preparedness. Training opportunities like this help ensure our department is better prepared to assist local, county, and regional partners when our community needs us most. We are proud to continue investing time in training, planning, and preparedness for the citizens we serve.

Good evening, neighbors. This weekend, three of our personnel who serve as chaplains with the Tennessee Federation of Fire Chaplains are traveling to Emmitsburg, Maryland for the National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend, along with many other chaplains from across Tennessee. We ask that you pray for the wellness and safe travels of our team, but most importantly, that the families, friends, and colleagues of the fallen being honored feel the love and support they deserve. Additionally, we want to thank the mutual aid departments that surround us for offering their full support to assist our department with any calls we may receive in our absence.

Three years ago today, our hearts were broken when we lost our Roy in the line of duty. Throughout his years of service with NTVFD, starting at the age of 18, we watched him grow, mature, become an exemplary firefighter, a great husband, and an awesome father. We are so proud of the young man he was. If you knew Roy, you couldn't help but love him; he had a heart of gold and a was a true servant. We miss him dearly.
