Tchula Police Department is currently searching for a suspect who fled the scene at the Tchula Court Apartments.

Suspect: Avester Peppers
Description: Black male, approximately 5’11”.
Wanted for several warrants. (including 2ct. Aggravated Domestic Violence) Peppers was last seen wearing a black shirt and grey shorts pants,
a pair of pink and black handcuffs.

If anyone has information regarding his whereabouts, please contact the Tchula Police Department at 662-235-5112.

Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and assist law enforcement with this investigation. Please do not attempt to approach or apprehend the individual yourself.

The Holmes County Sheriff Department is asking the public for assistance in Locating Markeal Williams aka Markelle Willliams who has Active Warrant(s) on the Charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of firearm by a convicted felon. The Mississippi Department of Corrections has a active warrant for absconding for Mr. Williams as well.

Markeal Williams aka Markelle Williams is considered to be Armed and Dangerous!!!

The Tchula Police Department wishes everyone a prosperous and healthy 2026!

As we leave 2025 behind and welcome the blessing of a brand-new year, it’s important to celebrate safely and be good neighbors.

To reach our goals together:
1) never fire celebratory shots in the air—those bullets come back down and can cause serious or even fatal injuries;

2) fireworks are dangerous, not allowed within city limits, and can disturb elderly neighbors;

3) if you enjoy adult beverages, be responsible—never drink and drive. Plan ahead with a designated driver or call for a ride.

The City of Tchula is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Officer Part time and Full time(certified or uncertified)The position is responsible for performing public safety functions and for providing for the enforcement of federal, state, and municipal law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions include: Providing law enforcement services including patrolling streets and public areas; responding to calls for assistance; providing assistance to the public; performing public relations duties; intervening in disputes; performing activities associated with investigations and crime prevention; protecting and preserving crime scenes; conducting preliminary investigations; collecting physical evidence; making arrests; issuing citations; interviewing and/or counseling involved parties; preparing documentation of activities performed and information gathered; completing detailed police reports; following up on cases; assisting with filing cases; transporting prisoners to detention facilities; testifying in court; interacting with other jurisdictions, law enforcement agencies and courts of law; researching and completing special projects; and performing other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Requires high school diploma or GED; Mississippi Peace Officer Standards and Training certification by the date of hire; valid Mississippi driver’s license with a safe driving record; and the ability to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends and mornings!
