Statement from Council Member Danielle Gee
As a member of the Teaneck Council, I want to acknowledge the deep concern and fear many of our families are experiencing as threats have forced several Historically Black Colleges and Universities into lockdown. For parents and loved ones here in Teaneck who have children attending HBCUs, I know the uncertainty of not being able to reach them, or worrying about their safety far from home, is profoundly difficult.
Please know that we stand in solidarity with you and with our students. We are monitoring developments closely, and we are committed to ensuring that Teaneck families have access to resources to support you during this unsettling time.
Teaneck is proud to be a community that values education, diversity, and safety. We join with leaders across the country in calling for the protection of every student, and we recognize the historic and ongoing importance of HBCUs to our shared American story.
To the students: we see you, we support you, and we are praying for your safety. To the families: we are here for you, and we will continue to advocate for every measure necessary to ensure your loved ones are protected and cared for.
