🥵 Hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat-related illness.

🔧🏠 PREPTEMBER PREP: LOCATE YOUR HOME’S UTILITY SHUTOFFS ⚡💧If a pipe suddenly bursts, could you quickly turn off your water? After a severe storm or emergency, would you know where your home’s utility shutoffs are?

Take 10 minutes today to locate your home’s:

💧 Main water shutoff
🔥 Natural gas shutoff
⚡ Main electrical shutoff

Make sure everyone in your household knows where they are located and understands what to do during an emergency.

September is National Preparedness Month, making it a great time to make sure you and your family are for whatever comes next.

Take a few simple steps this month to strengthen your emergency preparedness:

🏠 Talk with your family about where to meet during an emergency.
📱 Decide how you will stay in touch if normal communication is disrupted.
🚗 Know where you would go and how you would evacuate if you needed to leave home quickly.
🎒 Review or build your emergency supply kit.

🚨🔥 BURN BAN CONTINUED – ADDITIONAL 14 DAYS 🔥🚨

The Pottawatomie County Board of Commissioners approved the continuation of the countywide Burn Ban for an additional 14 days due to continued extreme fire danger conditions.

📅 Burn Ban Effective: September 1, 2026 – September 15, 2026

The Burn Ban was originally approved on August 18, 2026, and has now been continued through September 15, 2026.

This Burn Ban is issued pursuant to Section 16-26.B of Title 2 of the Oklahoma Statutes and has been verified through documented concurrence of the majority of the county’s rural fire chiefs or their designees.

🚫 During the Burn Ban, it is unlawful to:
• Set fire to any forest, grass, range, crop, or other wild lands
• Build a campfire or bonfire
• Burn trash or other materials that could cause a wildfire

👮 ENFORCEMENT: Any law enforcement officer of the State of Oklahoma may enforce this resolution.

⚖️ PENALTIES: A person convicted of violating the Burn Ban may be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.

🔥 Please continue to use extreme caution and do not conduct outdoor burning while the Burn Ban remains in effect.

Pottawatomie County continues to experience above-normal temperatures, and the hotter weather is expected to stick around.

🔥 THIS WEEKEND: Many areas could see triple-digit high temperatures.

🌡️ EARLY SEPTEMBER: With the jet stream remaining across the northern half of the country and upper-level high pressure over the southern U.S., above-normal temperatures are likely to continue through the first week of September.

📈 LOOKING AHEAD: The Climate Prediction Center currently indicates a 70–80% probability of above-normal temperatures for our area during the second week of September. Normal highs during this period are generally in the mid-80s to around 90°F.

🌧️ RAINFALL: Unfortunately, meaningful rainfall may also be limited. Current outlooks favor a 40–50% chance of below-normal precipitation for our area.

🔥 BURN BAN REMINDER: Pottawatomie County remains under a countywide burn ban through September 1, 2026.

Due to the continued hot and dry conditions, the Pottawatomie County Emergency Management Director has prepared an additional burn ban resolution for review and possible action by the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners at its next meeting at 9:00 AM on September 1, 2026.

⚠️ BOTTOM LINE: The overall trend continues to point toward hotter and drier conditions as we approach mid-September. These conditions may also contribute to continued or increasing fire danger.

Please continue to use caution during the heat, stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and follow all current burn ban restrictions.

PCEM will continue monitoring weather, drought, and fire conditions and provide updates as needed.

⛈️ A portion of Pottawatomie County is included in a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms from approximately 3 PM to 8 PM today.

Post-frontal showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon as an upper-level disturbance moves across Oklahoma. The highest chances for storms will be across east-central and southeast Oklahoma.

⚠️ PRIMARY HAZARDS:
💨 Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph
🧊 Hail up to quarter size
🌩️ Strong to severe thunderstorms

While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could become severe and produce damaging wind gusts.

📱 STAY WEATHER AWARE
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
• Secure loose outdoor items before storms arrive.
• Be prepared to move indoors if a warning is issued.
• Never rely on outdoor warning sirens as your only source of warning.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.
