Southern portions of Nebraska and Iowa will be subject to the occasional threat of severe weather Thursday evening through Monday.

Chances of seeing hail or damaging winds aren't great on any given day, but add them up and you'd better be sure you know where to seek shelter.

05/12/2026

Wildfire concerns will be on the increase this afternoon. Gusty winds up to 35 mph behind a cold front will combine with above-normal temperatures, dry fuels, and low relative humidity. Even stronger winds gusting up to 45 mph will support increased fire danger on Thursday also.

05/11/2026

Please take extra care to prevent wildfires on Tuesday and Thursday as warm, windy, and dry conditions may lead to extreme fire danger in parts of northeast and central Nebraska. Winds will be out of the northwest with gusts up to 35 mph. Thursday will be quite windy and dry once again, although with winds coming from the south at up to 45 mph.

05/11/2026

The start of the work week will be noticeably warmer as 80s return to the forecast. On top of the increased temperatures, wind speeds increase as well. South winds may be a little breezy later this afternoon with even stronger winds behind a cold front on Tuesday.

05/11/2026

Wildfire concerns exist for Monday and Tuesday. Though most vegetation has have transitioned to the vegetative or green phase, dry atmospheric conditions have dried out fine fuels. Warmer than normal temperatures, low relative humidity, and gusty winds will enhance fire weather growth conditions for fine fuels, especially Tuesday.

After a slight cool down on Sunday, temperatures only increase from there next week into the following weekend. Highs in the 80s give way to the 90s with little rainfall expected. Prepare for an early taste of summer-like heat.
