Drivers in Johnson County will see stepped-up seat belt enforcement later this month as part of a nationwide effort aimed at reducing crash injuries and deaths.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, working with law enforcement agencies across the country, is increasing seat belt enforcement through the national “Make it Click” high-visibility campaign.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a grant through the Nebraska Department of Transportation to support overtime traffic enforcement during the campaign, which runs from May 15 through May 31, 2026.

During that period, officers will conduct proactive traffic enforcement with an emphasis on seat belt compliance. The goal is to reduce injuries and fatalities from crashes involving unrestrained drivers and passengers.

Motorists are reminded to always wear a seat belt, whether traveling out of town or running daily errands. Drivers are also urged to make sure all occupants are properly restrained before leaving any parking location, including children who must be secured in appropriate car seats.

Well!! Someone was in an absolute rush to see us today! There’s really no other word to describe this besides “ridiculous”.

We love you and we always appreciate a chance to have a conversation with you but let’s try not to have one because you “didn’t realize you were going so fast”.

Slow down and steer clear of those well informed poor decisions!!

A big shout out to our jailers who cross-train as our dispatchers. The system has a process. Someone has to take care of those who sit behind bars. Typically, it isn't fun but the job must be done. Thank you.

Hey everyone!!

It’s come our attention that sooooo many Johnson County residents forgot to pay their toll fees lately! Some notes to take with this and with any other scams!

First and foremost we want to remind everyone that no court will contact you like this for nonpayment of a ticket. Courts will use certified mail or civil process procedures (essentially this is us showing up with the papers to your house or employer). IF they were going to contact you by phone it would be with an office number that can be linked to the courthouse. If for some reason you think it MIGHT be true and you have court: court dockets are public record and can be looked up by referring to multi case court calendar where you can figure out if you have court. Simply follow the prompts.

The website is: https://www.nebraska.gov/courts/calendar/index.cgi.

Secondly, a quick google search will tell you that none of these statutes are anywhere close to what they are saying they are. Non payment of tolls aren’t a citable offense by the Nebraska Revised Statutes and, if you look closely, they forgot to put a statute code for speeding….through the toll booth we guess.

Finally, and likely most importantly, we would like remind everyone that the state of Nebraska does not have toll roads and the bridges with tolls are not in Douglas County or Omaha. If you have potentially travelled somewhere that does have tolls they would not process anything through a Nebraska court and it would be the court of jurisdiction the toll was in.

Always be mindful of what is being sent to you and never be afraid to call us if you have questions about these things! As always, friends, we implore you to not make well informed poor decisions! We hope this helps with that if and when you receive this text!

Have a wonderful weekend!!!

Tecumseh, Broadway west of 3rd Street. The town square rebuilding project continues with the big paver machine getting ready to do its thing. Be careful with all the barricades and excavations in the square area. The Road Closed signs appear obvious in the daylight, but help out better at night.
