It was a long week but Burt Co. EM joined other EMs from the Northeast PET Region, WY Natrona Co. EM and Sheriff's Department, NSP, US Air Force and many others in going through and finishing Inland Planners Search And Rescue (SAR) School. Thank you to Christopher Walker and Franz Workman with the US Air Force for instructing us with the information that could save lives. Thank you to Kevin Garvin Cedar Co. EM for organizing the school.

At 1:45 pm National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for south eastern Burt county for a radar indicated tornado moving east. In an abundance of caution the warning sirens were activated for Tekamah. It has since been cancelled. Our goal for our office is the safety for everyone in the county. We thank everyone for their cooperation.

Hello Burt County,
I am sure everyone is aware that the Governor’s Office has issued a ban on burning in the state. The information that the Emergency Manager’s office is getting from the National Weather Service says that our region is under severe risk of wildfires.
With sustained winds between 25 and 40 mph and a relative humidity between 25 and 15, it would take nothing for a fire to start and spread for miles. While the risk for Friday (today) is high, Saturday is at an even higher risk.
It is up to everyone to do what they can to prevent these fires that have the potential to devastate homes, families, and businesses. The first thing is obvious: no burning! With high winds, it doesn’t take much for fires that were thought to be out to reignite. If you have any worries about a possible reignition, call in your local fire department. It is easier to prevent the fire than to put one out.
Try to avoid igniting burn barrels and fire pits, but if you do, have a grate over the top, this will help prevent burning ash and embers from spreading out the top. Always have a water source at the ready to put it out while you watch it. Please do not leave them unattended.
Finally, for the smokers, please do not throw your ci******es out your car window, and always make sure they are completely out when finished with them.
These are simple preventive measures that can save so much destruction.
