Northeast Tennessee District 7 SKYWARN organization was founded on Friday, September 16, 2005. On the same day, the FCC granted the original call KI4LTU. On Tuesday, January 10, 2006 the FCC granted the vanity call WX4TN. We service the National Weather Service in Morristown, TN. We do our training / activation nets on 146.700 MHz PL 77.0. Training net every Friday night at 8:00 PM. Status Level G

reen: An advisory for any of the counties in the district is issued by NWS Morristown or no severe weather is expected. Repeater will be operational as usual. Status Level Yellow: A severe thunderstorm watch, tornado watch, or flash flood watch is issued for any of the counties in the district by NWS Morristown. Severe weather will likely occur in our area. Please keep all conversations to the point on the repeater and be prepared to relinquish the repeater to net control should the watch be upgraded to a warning. Status Level Red: A severe thunderstorm warning, tornado warning, or flash flood warning has been issued for any of the counties in the district by NWS Morristown. This means severe weather is occurring in our area. The severe WX net will be operational at this time and the repeater will only be open to emergency traffic, severe reports, or questions about the storm. No other traffic will be permitted on the repeater. All traffic must go through net control.

Scattered showers and storms are likely this afternoon and evening.
The primary hazards will be strong to damaging winds, but a brief tornado cannot be ruled out in southeast Tennessee.
Lots of moisture in the atmosphere means these storms will be capable of heavy downpours, with rainfall rates 1+ inches per hour at times. This could result in poor visibility during afternoon commutes and localized flooding.

6/16: Bottom Line Up Front: (for your planning purposes)
We are monitoring a tropical weather disturbance currently located over southern Texas/northern Mexico. The National Hurricane Center has assessed a 60% chance of formation either today or tomorrow.
This system will eventually head to the northeast and east, likely crossing across the Southeast.
Potential for heavy rainfall in association with moisture from this disturbance will exist Thursday and Friday this week. Additionally, a very low risk exists for strong convective wind gusts Thursday in part association with a cold front to our north.

What Has Changed:
A severe weather risk for Thursday for the whole area has been introduced. Additional, excessive rainfall risks exist Thursday into Friday.
Thursday, June 18:
Very low risk for damaging wind gusts on Thursday.
Timing is uncertain but afternoon hours would be favored.
Low risk for flash flooding between daytime thunderstorms and the arrival of the tropical air mass late in the day/nighttime hours.
Friday, June 19:
Low flash flooding risk as combination of cold front and tropical moisture lingers.

6/12 Bottom Line Up Front: A weak cold front moving through the Ohio River valley will help spark scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon through the evening hours. A few storms may become severe, with damaging winds the main risk, and flash flooding and hail very low risks.

Most likely hazard is damaging downburst winds from thunderstorms that are strong to severe, lesser risk for significant wind downbursts (>75mph)

Isolated storms will bring the risk of very heavy rainfall on Monday.
These storms will produce very heavy rain over a small area. While one county might receive 3+ inches of rain on Monday, a neighboring county might receive very little rain.
Highest risk for heavy rain is for locations west of I-75, but it cannot be ruled out for the entire region.
Expect heavy showers to move in Monday morning and remain in the region through the rest of the day.

6/1 Bottom Line Up Front:
A cluster of storms has formed over east central Missouri early this morning. This will become a bowing line of storms that will move southeast across Middle and East Tennessee this afternoon and evening.
Severe chances are primarily focused south of a line from Oneida to Knoxville to Gatlinburg, but especially over the southern plateau and southern valley. North of that line, severe chances seem unlikely.
The primary hazard type will be damaging wind gusts. However some large hail can't be ruled out either.
Flooding threats seem negligible due to expected forward speed of storms.

What Has Changed:
Confidence in timing and location of storms has increased.

Medium to High confidence in timing (arriving in the plateau between 3-5pm EDT)

Isolated Flash Flooding is possible this evening through Saturday afternoon for most of the area.

What Has Changed:
Confidence has increased in the possibility of isolated Flash Flooding.

Today, Thursday 5/29 Through Saturday 5/30
Isolated to scattered showers and storms will continue to increase in coverage and intensity this evening, with rainfall expected into Saturday.
Rain rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour can be expected at times, in the heaviest showers and storms.
Due to recent saturated soils and high rain rates, isolated flash flooding is possible for some areas, especially across areas that see repeated rounds of showers and storms.
Due to the scattered nature of the convection, it's hard to say where the highest rainfall amounts will occur. Some areas within the Flash Flood Watch will see several inches of rain, and some may see little to none. Areas that see training and repeated rounds of convection, could see upwards of 3 to 5 inches.

High for timing.
Low to moderate of at least one instance of isolated flash flooding.

A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible mainly this afternoon and evening.
Primary threat will be gusty damaging winds. There is also a very low chance for an isolated weak, brief tornado.
There is a low risk for flash flooding today and tomorrow, mainly in urban and flood prone areas. Flash flooding potential may increase early next week as the wet pattern is expected to continue.

Confidence:
Low to Medium confidence for a few severe storms.
