The Historic Nugget Building, Telluride, Colorado

Here's a little before/after of the Nugget Building. The first photo was taken in September 1999 and the second photo was taken in January 2021. While the copper components of the tower aren't yet installed, the change is truly shocking. A partial list of major improvements over the years include new storefronts for the Nugget Theatre and the adjacent space (now Bill Fandel's Compass office); restoring the front stairs to the Bank Hall space; repairing the capitals and arches at the corner; removing the blue shotcrete; adding awnings that were historically on the building; restoring the tower and balustrade to the building; upgrading the interior, etc., etc. The owners, Katrine and Bill Formby, have spent an estimated $4,000,000 on restoring this beautiful grande dame.

We are so humbled to present to you the almost complete balustrade, finials and tower of the Old First National Bank, aka the Nugget Building. Once the copper components arrive, we will finish the tower and install an eight-foot finial on top. It will be a grand day!

Can you imagine!? The first photo of the historic bank hall space in the Nugget Building (SunglassHQ location) was taken January 20, 2020. Eleven months later, we have an incredible transformation. Check out some of our "before/after" photos of the Nugget Building!

What an awesome article on the continued restoration of the Nugget Building, aka the Old First National Bank of Telluride. The scaffolding comes down starting tomorrow...but we aren't quite done up top. SOON!!

The tower is taking shape now. You can see the tower window arches through the scaffolding. It's going to be incredible to see this landmark with her "top-hat" again.
