While it’s great that the second reading was signed at the 10/24 Town Council meeting, keep in mind that this negotiation has been ongoing since the land owner was first approached by the Town of Telluride in 2017. Exact project details and the plan of action to make the plant a reality are still not clear and it is time for a leader who can get this critical infrastructure project to the finish line.

For example, what will the size of an expanded or new plant be to keep up with not only the current demand but future developments as well? Has the Town secured and agreed upon the final location for the Treatment Plant, as the memo per the Agreement indicates possible modifications to the configuration? If there are any modifications, this could once again slow down the process. What can the Local Taxpayer/Water User expect as a true cost to build a new wastewater plant? These are questions I will work to get you clear answers on and share a transparent plan that will lead to the completion of the project.

FUTURE FOR OUR GONDOLA: 2027 marks the end to the Telluride Mountain Village Owners Association’s (TMVOA) funding our beloved FREE Gondola operation. Not only do we need to insure the gondola’s future but we also need to address the state of the gondola itself and plan for replacement. Two big tasks that we can’t just leave to TMVOA, the Town of Mountain Village and SMART to figure out. Let along in three years. I plan to work with the Town of Telluride to be a positive influence on the collaboration of multiple governments to start putting the plans together. This includes construction timelines, the impacts of bus travel between the two towns and working with TSG on better snowmaking so the winter burden of bus travel is less. Lastly I promise to be transparent throughout the process to ensure locals, second homeowners and tourists and informed.

FUTURO PARA NUESTRA GÓNDOLA: 2027 marca el final de la financiación de la Asociación de Propietarios de Telluride Mountain Village (TMVOA) para nuestra querida operación de Góndola GRATUITA. No sólo debemos asegurar el futuro de la góndola, sino que también debemos abordar el estado de la propia góndola y planificar su reemplazo. Dos grandes tareas que no podemos dejar que TMVOA, la ciudad de Mountain Village y SMART resuelvan. Déjalo pasar en tres años. Planeo trabajar con la ciudad de Telluride para ser una influencia positiva en la colaboración de múltiples gobiernos para comenzar a elaborar los planes. Esto incluye los cronogramas de construcción, los impactos de los viajes en autobús entre las dos ciudades y trabajar con TSG para mejorar la producción de nieve para que la carga invernal de los viajes en autobús sea menor. WASTEWATER TREATMENT: How has the Town of Telluride been unable to finalize an agreement with the Genesse Partners Group for the developmental parcel at the Society Turn? This is another key reason why I am running for Mayor. The past and current leadership has been unable to get this done for over 3 years! I will remove the roadblocks, seek compromise and lead our Town Manager and other governmental leaders while urging them to get this deal done. I know we are close with the Agreement, but the Town’s last minute request for more land erodes trust and complicates this current Agreement and could lead to a redesign of the Developmental Application which could cause further delays. We need an expanded Wastewater Treatment Plant and we need to acquire land to do so. Our lack of action and current pressure does not put us in a place of power and we must respect the parties that can help make this plan a reality. This will lead to the ability to provide water & sewer lines to that development along with the land needed to build a plant in the least conspicuous location. Other opportunities that could benefit the region could include a more affordable hotel, additional housing along with a site for a Medical Center. That’s a win-win for the community. Let's trust our Leaders to finalize this Agreement, fast.
