“We will need writers who can remember freedom”. Welcome to the John Clute Science Fiction Library in Telluride. The Library is comprised of two sections: first is the circulating library housed at Ghost Town Grocer, a coffeehouse and cafe on Telluride’s Main Street. The circulating section is

made up of approximately 2,000 paperback science fiction books including many classic titles, organized alphabetically by author. These books are available on loan to local readers and are organized on the Honor System, to maximize ease of use.
The Library’s other section is a writers’ and scholars’ reference library which comprises a major collection of about 12,000 volumes of science fiction, most in first edition hard backs, plus an undetermined number of nonfiction texts devoted to the study and bibliographical analysis of science fiction. A quarter of the collection is currently shelved and available for viewing by appointment. The balance of the collection will be housed and shelved and made available in the near future as the Library approaches completion. John Clute, who has assembled the main collection, is a chief editor of the online Encyclopedia of Science Fiction, http://sf-encyclopedia.uk/ , generally recognized as the largest and most comprehensive reference work in the field. Clute is also an illustrious and prolific critic, reviewer and essayist whose influence on science fiction writers has been profound. He has won multiple Hugo Awards and World Fantasy Awards, and has been named as an Honorary Visiting Fellow at Anglia Ruskin University.
