Congrats to Dennis Andrejko for becoming a real life librarian! He just completed his Masters in Library Science with a 3.98 GPA from the University of Southern Mississippi 🙌! We have been so lucky to have had him as part of the library team for over 15 years now. He’s got the greatest sense of humor and will always go the extra mile to help make a patron’s day. He can make you a library card, process your fingerprints, expedite your passport application and so much more. So, if you see Dennis, be sure to give him a big high five! 🎉👹‍🎓 🌈

Join us for a presentation from R. E. Burrillo about his new book, American Archeology: Living History, Stolen Pasts, and Defending the Future on Thursday, September 3rd at 5:30 pm

A gripping, often irreverent exploration of the past, present, and future of archaeology in America.

Archaeology has long captivated the American public, yet pop culture mythology often obscures the harsh realities, thrilling discoveries, and complex moral decisions that archaeologists confront out in the field. Journalist and conservation archaeologist R. E. Burrillo illuminates the joys and contradictions of digging into humanity’s past: the history of the practice, its evolution into science, the influences of nationalism and colonialism, and its ongoing problems with exploitation and misrepresentation.

Congrats to our WPL Dog of the Month; Ziggy Stardust! Ziggy is 17 years old and his favorite book is Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi. His human’s name is Sherab Kloppenburg.

Join Ernest House, Jr., Senior Policy Director at the Center of Tribal & Indigenous Engagement at the Wilkinson Public Library for a conversation on August 10th at 5:30 pm.

He will talk about projects like the Colorado Outdoor Strategy Tribal Framework, buffalo restoration in the San Luis Valley, and the building the nation’s first tribal embassy in Denver.

Ernest House Jr. is an enrolled member of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe in Towaoc, Colorado, and a leader in Native American affairs. He served as Executive Director of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs (CCIA) for 12 years, fostering communication between Colorado’s tribal nations and state agencies, while maintaining government-to-government relations under Governors Owens, Ritter, and Hickenlooper. Currently, as Senior Policy Director and Director for the Center for Tribal and Indigenous Engagement at the Keystone Policy Center, he focuses on tribal consultation, energy, conservation, healthcare, natural resources, and cultural resource management. Ernest is a Gates Family Foundation and German Marshall Memorial Fellow, and serves on various boards, including The Gates Family Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, National Western Center Authority, and the Telluride Institute. He is the son of the late Ernest House, Sr., a long-time tribal leader, and great-grandson of Chief Jack House, the last hereditary chief of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe.
