ALL LANES NOW OPEN!!!!

SR-74 (Ortega Highway) is currently CLOSED in BOTH directions at South Main Divide while crews safely remove empty gas cylinders from the roadway.

⏱️ Expected closure: Approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Alternate routes are strongly recommended. Please use caution and check real-time traffic apps if you're in the area.

Safety Note: Debris like this on the road is no joke — according to the Federal Highway Administration, roadway debris contributes to over 50,000 crashes annually in the U.S. Even "empty" cylinders can create serious hazards if they shift or rupture. Thanks to our crews for clearing it quickly!

🚨 CHP Traffic Alert - I-215 Southbound Closure

A brush fire has temporarily closed all southbound lanes of I-215 and the southbound Newport off-ramp. Fire crews are on scene knocking it down quickly.

Good news: Lanes are expected to reopen soon.

Today a driver learned the hard way: cited for blasting 124 mph in a 65 mph zone on our local highways. We’ve posted multiple vehicles this last week cited, towed, and drivers arrested for triple-digit speeds.

The facts:
●Speeding is a factor in about 26% of all fatal crashes in California (CHP data).
●For every 10 mph over the limit, your risk of a serious crash roughly doubles.
●At 124 mph, you’re covering a football field every 2 seconds… with almost zero time to react if something goes wrong.

Slow down. It’s not worth the ticket, the tow, the arrest, or worse.

🚨 MINOR INJURY COLLISION – RANCHO CALIFORNIA ROAD 🚨

At approximately 3:46 PM today (5/16/26), a three-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Rancho California Rd. and Calle Contento.
Involved:

●A Temecula Wine Trolley
●A Tesla
●A Rivian

Thankfully, only minor injuries were reported. Two parties were transported for evaluation and the roadway has been cleared. The Temecula Wine Trolly had 15 people on board at the time of the crash.

Pro Tip from your local CHP: Even cutting-edge EVs and charming wine trolleys have to follow the same rules of the road. Distracted driving + wine country traffic = a bad combo no matter how fancy your ride is.

🚨 Temecula CHP Update: Speed Demons, We've Got Your Number (Literally)

Folks, our officers were out enforcing again and issued two more citations for drivers blasting over 100 mph on our highways. One was caught pushing serious triple digits.

Speeding plays a role in about one-third of traffic fatalities here.

Why it matters: At 100+ mph, your reaction time shrinks, stopping distances explode, and crash forces turn deadly. A minor fender-bender at normal speeds becomes a life-changer (or life-ender) when you're flying that fast. Not worth the "thrill," especially when it can cost you:
●A hefty ticket (often $1,000+ with penalties)
●License suspension or revocation (thanks to the FAST program sending 100+ mph cases straight to DMV)
●Vehicle impound
●Jail time in extreme cases
●2 points on your record for years

Slow down! Arrive alive instead of "fashionably late" to the tow yard. Your family, friends, and fellow drivers are counting on you to keep it safe out there.
