The truth: we got too many seedlings and I got overwhelmed 🤣 So we asked people for help but then I realized, what if we just made this a practice! And a decentralized food system was born! Share the Harvest 🌱
That one decision changed everything. Now we have multiple people growing food across different cities and neighborhoods: in raised beds, containers, balconies, patios, windowsills, and backyards. Some people have years of gardening experience, while others are trying it for the first time.
And that’s the beauty of decentralized food systems: everyone contributes differently based on their capacity, space, and skill level. You do not need acres of land to participate, nor do you need to be an expert gardener… and you don’t need to grow a ton of fruits and vegetables at one time!
Some folks took 2 plants, some took 20! We promote a culture of doing what you can, when you can, and how you can 😊🫶🏾
What we’re learning is that local food systems become stronger when knowledge, resources, and harvests are shared between all of us instead of depending entirely on large-scale, industrial systems. This is community resilience ✨
We’ve already had community members share fresh produce directly with their neighbors, and we’re continuing to experiment, learn, and improve as we go ❤️🔥❤️🔥
If you’ve been wanting to help your community but don’t know where to start, this is your sign to try. If you’re in the Inland Empire, California, come join us!
