🌍Connecting with Mother Earth at EnVision 🌿

Tempe's Sustainability and Resilience Division is now offering classes at the EnVision Center (located at Apache & Dorsey) that connect us with nature and promote local food and native plants (and bugs!). Some recent classes included insects of the Sonoran Desert, nature journaling and a fruit pizza cooking class. This month's classes include an introduction to hydroponics and cooking with the mighty mesquite bean.

Today, City and community leaders announced a first-of-its-kind Dementia and Age-Friendly Park being developed within Kiwanis Park, in the former Tempe Sister Cities Garden. The "park within a park" is designed to support residents living with dementia, older adults and caregivers. Beyond a recreational space, it will be a place to foster cognitive and emotional health, strengthen relationships and honor memories.

This project builds on Tempe's longstanding leadership in age and dementia friendly initiatives. The City of Tempe became Arizona's first Dementia Friendly City in 2015 and earned an AARP Age-Friendly City designation in 2022.

Local architect Architekton is generously donating design costs for the project, and the City is pursuing grant funding for permitting and construction, with Capital Improvements Plan funds covering project costs not funded through grants. Donations will soon be accepted through the Tempe Diablos Charities to further offset costs.

And get ready for Oct. 3 because it’s City of Tempe night at Mountain America Stadium as the Sun Devils take on the Bears of Baylor.

Sun Devil football joins other fall sports like volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis and ice hockey for vigorous athletic competition Arizona State Athletics has to offer this season.
