Hello friends! I am asking for your advocacy. Two organizations I care deeply about, Arizona Humanities and KJZZ Phoenix/ KBACH are under threat of defunding due to budget actions at the federal level. I currently serve on the board of the Friends of Public Radio AZ, and am a former board member for AZ Humanities. I can attest to the excellence of programming and financial stewardship by these organizations. They provide a vital service to our Arizona Community. If you value local reporting and programming that helps elevate Arizona culture, please contact your representatives and let them know to fund the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. If you're not sure who your representatives are, you can find them here: https://www.usa.gov/elected-officials

Use USAGov’s Contact Your Elected Officials tool to get contact information for your members of Congress, the president, and state and local officials.

A huge thank you to everyone who made it out on Saturday for the First Press Wine Festival, benefitting KJZZ Phoenix, KBACH, Sun Sounds of Arizona and SPOT 127. Now, more than ever, your support of public radio is essential. It was a great event and the folks I chatted with really enjoyed the venue, the Arizona Heritage Center. If you haven't been (to the museum), it's a great place to learn about some fascinating Arizona history!

Hello Friends! I am on the board of the Friends of Public Radio Arizona. As you know, I am a public radio enthusiast and strongly support the mission of public radio:

"to create a more informed public — one challenged and invigorated by a deeper understanding and appreciation of events, ideas and cultures."

I'm inviting you to join me in support of your local Arizona public radio by purchasing tickets to the First Press Fine Wine Festival.

This wine-tasting benefits KJZZ Phoenix, KBACH, and the SPOT 127 Youth Media Center.

You can find more details and purchase tickets at https://www.firstpressarizona.com

I'll be there and it would be great to catch up! If you can't make it, please consider donating in support of public radio

I'm in the process of becoming an accessibility champion through work. What is that? I'm glad you asked! It means that I am learning about ways that I can be deliberate about considering the needs of and being an advocate for people with disabilities. The book I'm reading as part of the process is Demystifying Disability, by Emily Ladau. I'm halfway through, and already I am learning about better ways I can consider the needs of the disabled community in my work and personal life. I checked out the book from the Chandler Public Library, so if you don't want to purchase a copy, know it's available for you at no cost. I think we should all become more aware of how we can better support ALL people in everything that we do. Linking to the author's site in the event that you would like to learn more: https://emilyladau.com/book/

Disabled people are the world’s largest minority, an estimated 15 percent of the global population. But many of us–disabled and non-disabled alike–don’t know how to act, what to say, or how to be an ally.

Over the weekend I, along with my local Arizona Political family, celebrated the life of CJ Briggle. CJ was a mentor to me, but more than that, she was my friend. She was instrumental in getting me invested and involved in Chandler and Ahwatukee politics. In recalling her impact on my life, I was rereading some of the messages we exchanged over the years. I found one that both encouraged me and captured just how CJ made you feel loved and like you could really change the world. A snippet from the message she sent me after my wedding:

"Most of all, though, the people you shared your obvious love with stole my heart, just like you when we first met at that small vegan cafe where you rode your bike from Intel to hear my spiel why you should be our next secretary. The rest is history.

You turned LD17 purple! Jennifer Pawlik will be a fast friend, if you aren't already. Now it's time to turn LD17 to LD18 blue! We did it, pal. A lot with thanks to you ...

Your journey has just begun. When there is a partner in one's life, the sky is literally the limit. Love to the moon and back ... then do it all over again."

In celebrating CJ, we established a memorial fund through Arizona List where you can donate to the CJ Briggle Memorial Fund to Elect Pro-choice Democratic Women in Arizona https://secure.ngpvan.com/lH_dx1ijrE6QnNJZCh-jdQ2

CJ, I love you to the moon and back, and then, all over again.
