😔 Tucson Unified is the latest Arizona district facing the possibility of school closures.

After years of severe underfunding by the Republican-led state legislature and nearly $40 million siphoned away to Arizona’s unchecked ESA voucher program each year, TUSD officials are being forced to make very difficult decisions — which could include shutting down up to 10 neighborhood public schools.

TUSD officials and a third-party consultant will collect community input during September town halls before bringing a final proposal to the governing board in December.

Up to 10 Tucson Unified School District schools may face closures or consolidations as part of a phased plan to address declining enrollment and operational challenges starting as early as the 2027-2028 school year, with community input and professional consultation guiding the process.
