Bedford Township Fire Department Bedford Fire Department has three stations within the township. Station #1 1106 Temperance Rd. Station #2 3445 Dean Rd. Station #3 7016 Lewis Ave.

Our staff is made up of full time and part time members. In 2023, we responded to 4,072 calls for service.

An Air Quality Alert remains in effect today for Bedford Township due to smoke from ongoing wildfires in Canada. Air quality is expected to reach Very Unhealthy to Hazardous levels throughout much of the day, posing health risks to all individuals regardless of age or pre-existing health conditions. Conditions are expected to improve late tonight and into Saturday.



Residents are encouraged to remain indoors whenever possible, keep windows and doors closed, operate air conditioning systems on the recirculate setting with clean filters, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities until air quality improves.



For those without access to commercial air purifiers, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provides instructions for constructing a low-cost air cleaner using a box fan and high-efficiency furnace filters. If you choose to build one, use a clean, newer-model fan that is UL-listed. Because the filter increases airflow resistance, check the fan motor periodically to ensure it does not overheat, and never leave the unit operating unattended.



Finally, we extend our gratitude and support to the firefighters and support teams working to contain these wildfires. Our thoughts are with them as they continue to protect lives, property, and natural resources.

Smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires has moved into Bedford Township, resulting in unhealthy air quality. Residents in the area may notice reduced visibility and the smell of smoke.

The Bedford Township Fire Department encourages everyone to take the following precautions:
- Limit outdoor activities, especially strenuous exercise.
- Keep windows and doors closed when possible.
- Run air conditioning on the recirculate setting if available.
- Individuals with asthma, COPD, heart disease, older adults, young children, and pregnant women should avoid time outdoors.
- If you must be outside for an extended period and smoke is heavy, consider wearing a mask capable of filtering particulates.

Smoke can cause eye irritation, sore throat, coughing, shortness of breath, and aggravate existing heart and lung conditions. If you experience severe difficulty breathing, chest pain, or other medical emergencies, call 911 immediately. Please utilize indoor public facilities if your home does not have the ability to filter outside air from coming inside.

The Bedford Township Fire Department will continue to monitor conditions.

Our firefighters recently spent time sharpening their vehicle extrication skills, practicing the techniques and teamwork needed to safely remove patients from damaged vehicles. These hands-on training evolutions help ensure we're prepared to respond effectively when seconds matter most.
