Only 3 weeks into school and we’ve got our first Bluebonnet Challenge winner! Congratulations to Kinsley for being the first to read 5 Bluebonnet books. Her vote is for “The Girl Who Figured It Out.”

The Bluebonnet Challenge is based on the Texas Librarians Associations yearly list of Bluebonnet award nominees. The slogan is “Read 5, then Decide.” Students are challenged to read 5 of the 20 books and then pick their favorite. These votes determine which book wins the award.

At Burrell we add an extra incentive of a pizza party for those who complete the challenge. It’s a great motivator to get kids to read high quality, well reviewed books.

Ask your 3-5 grade student about the Bluebonnet challenge!

I'm so excited to start back to school tomorrow! I wanted to reintroduce myself, and share a little bit about me.

My name is Ms. Sachnik, I've been the librarian at Burrell since we became a campus. Not only am I the librarian, I also teach G/T students, manage our Makerspace, and serve as the STEM Leader for our campus.

I have a Master's in Library Science, and I am a certified School Librarian. My favorite book is The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo. I also love to craft in my spare time.

I'm looking forward to being your librarian this year. Welcome Back!
