Last night, one of our Fraternal Order of Police Berks Lodge #71 members, Officer Kristen Yeager of the Central Berks Regional Police Department, was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident while responding to assist another police department.

Officer Yeager was transported by EMS to the Reading Hospital Trauma Unit. Tragically, Officer Yeager did not survive.

Officer Yeager leaves behind her husband, three young children, family, friends, and an entire law enforcement family who are mourning this unimaginable loss.

As members of law enforcement, fire, EMS, and Officer Yeager’s family gathered at Reading Hospital, the staff of the Emergency Department demonstrated extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and kindness. From ensuring there was a place for everyone to gather to attending to every need during an incredibly difficult time, their support was unwavering.

First Responders from all over Berks County later lined the hall for the “honor walk”. As the procession began and members of her department entered the hallway, employees from throughout Reading Hospital/Tower Health lined the corridor, standing shoulder to shoulder in silent tribute. It was not only Emergency Department staff, but employees from across the hospital who took the time to pay their respects to a fallen officer.

The compassion, dignity, and respect shown to Officer Yeager, her family, and the first responders present cannot be overstated.

On behalf of the Fraternal Order of Police Berks Lodge #71 and the law enforcement community, thank you to the physicians, nurses, support staff, administrators, and every Tower Health employee who honored Officer Yeager and supported all of us during one of our darkest moments. Your kindness and humanity made a difference, and it will never be forgotten.

Please continue to keep Officer Yeager’s family, friends, and the members of the Central Berks Regional Police Department in your thoughts and prayers.
