In the coming days, my term as your 5th District County Commissioner will come to an end. I’ve decided to leave this page up as a digital archive of the work we’ve accomplished together over these last four years.

More than anything, I simply want to say thank you.

Thank you for trusting me with your vote. Thank you for calling, texting, stopping me in the grocery store, sharing your concerns, offering your advice, and allowing me the privilege of representing our little corner of Meigs County. Serving my neighbors and our community has truly been the honor of a lifetime.

And they’re right when they say the elected official is rarely the only one who serves. The whole household does. Katie has graciously shared countless evenings, weekends, phone calls, meetings, events, and more than a few dinner-table conversations with Meigs County over these four years. I could never have done this without her patience and willingness to serve right alongside me.

I love Meigs County. I love the people who call it home. And as this chapter closes, my prayer is that both our continuing leaders and those beginning their service will lead wisely and always with the best interests of our people at heart.

There’s currently a tie in the race for Meigs County’s Third District Commission seat.

People are saying put it on the November ballot while others argue that we should vote to fill the seat ourselves.

Fortunately, there’s a pretty sensible option: appoint an interim commissioner so the Third District remains fully represented, then put the seat before the voters in November and let them decide.

No district should go 2+ months underrepresented, and no tie-breaking process is better than simply letting the people choose their representative.

Seems rather democratic to me.

Things are starting to take shape at the Ten Mile Park. This photo shows the playground equipment being installed. Both Ten Mile and
Eastview Parks are scheduled to be completed by August 14th.

A few weeks ago, I shared that the draft of Meigs County's General Fund budget was projected to finish roughly $175,000 in the red.

Tonight (7/28/2026) at 7:00 PM, the County Commission will vote on a balanced budget.

In our July 2026 Workshop, as Chairman of the Finance Committee, I recommended a series of changes to eliminate the proposed deficit, and the Commissioners accepted those recommendations.

The budget before us tonight reflects those adjustments.

One of the most basic responsibilities of the county commission is to pass a balanced budget and I will support that effort tonight.

Tonight, the Meigs County Commission reviewed a proposed budget that included a 3% cost of living raise for county employees. As the Finance Committee Chairman, I recommended removing those raises because the General Fund was still projected to be approximately $175,000 in the red.

By removing a few other things along with the 3% raises we should be able to pass a balanced budget.

No one enjoys voting against a raise. We have some of the finest county employees in Tennessee, and I'm grateful for every one of them. I'm especially thankful for our Finance Director and her careful stewardship of the county's finances.

But one of our first responsibilities is to pass a balanced budget. A business wouldn't run a defecit to fund raises, and county government shouldn't either.

It's election season, and you'll hear plenty of promises about making the tough cuts. The reality is that Meigs County already operates lean. Fiscal responsibility sometimes requires difficult votes. Tonight was one of them.

If your power is out and you attempted to report the outage but it didn’t go through, it appears the outage map on the VEC app is now properly displaying outages. I also contacted a VEC representative directly, and they confirmed that a crew has been dispatched to work on restoring power. Thank you to our lineman and dispatchers!
