🚲 NEW JERSEY E-BIKE LAW UPDATE 🚨(SWIPE TO READ)

Not every bike with a motor is treated the same under New Jersey law.

Whether you’re a parent, rider, or e-bike owner, it’s important to understand the differences between low-speed electric bicycles, motorized bicycles (mopeds), electric motorized bicycles, electric motorcycles, and e-scooters. Each category has different requirements for licensing, registration, insurance, and helmet use.

Some key takeaways:
• Riders must be at least 15 years old to operate qualifying e-bikes.
• Many e-bikes now require registration with the NJMVC.
• Depending on the type of e-bike, riders may need a valid driver’s license or Class F moped license.
• Some motorized bicycles also require insurance.
• Helmet requirements vary depending on the type of vehicle and rider’s age.
• E-trikes remain exempt from these new requirements.

Swipe through these graphics to learn how to identify each type of vehicle and what is required to operate it legally.

Taking a few minutes to understand these changes can help you avoid violations and, more importantly, keep yourself and others safe on our roadways.

🚨 NO OVERNIGHT PARKING — SUNDAY FEBRUARY 22ND 🚨
Due to the expected snow storm, overnight parking will be prohibited throughout the borough to allow plows and emergency vehicles to safely clear roadways.

The Tenafly Police Department will be actively patrolling and enforcing the parking ordinance to help keep streets accessible and safe for everyone.

We appreciate your cooperation as our DPW and first responders work through the storm. Please move vehicles off the roadway and plan accordingly.

Stay safe Tenafly.
