On Election Day, all ballots were scanned, verified, and accounted for. Our protocol is to conduct a canvass, an internal audit, after each election to ensure complete accuracy. Per Indiana law, there is a 10-day window for this process to take place prior to certification of the election.

During this process, it was discovered that not all of the information that had been accounted for on Election Day was reflected in the unofficial report released to the public on election night. This was determined to be due to human error.

While situations like this can understandably raise questions, it also demonstrates that the safeguards built into the election process are working as intended. Election integrity and transparency are always at the forefront of our office.

We understand that seeing unofficial results change can be concerning, and we want to assure the public that the canvass and audit process exists specifically to identify and correct any discrepancies prior to certification of the election.

There are always opportunities for the public to view and better understand the election process. We encourage the community to follow our office on Facebook or contact us directly at 812-462-3235 with any questions. The public is also invited to attend election certification, which will take place during the County Election Board meeting on May 15. Additional information regarding that meeting will be shared soon.

❓ Ever wondered what happens to mail-in and early voting ballots once they arrive? ❓

Join us at the Vigo County Courthouse on Saturday, May 2nd at 9:00AM as we begin the process of opening ballot envelopes. Each envelope is handled by a bipartisan team—one Republican and one Democrat—following strict guidelines to protect privacy and ensure security.

We encourage the public to come observe and learn more about how we work to keep our elections transparent and trustworthy.

See you there! 🇺🇸🗳️✔️
