Over the last week, 9 members of HCFD completed a 40-hour course for structural collapse operations. These members, along with 3 from Terre Haute Fire and 1 from Thunderbird Fire (Sullivan County), worked through a number of scenarios and skills. In the last 18 months, HCFD has trained 40 responders from the area in the structural collapse discipline of rescue! We would like to thank the commitment of all the students and the Honey Creek Fire Protection District board. Honey Creek TAC 91 is the only structural collapse team within 2 hours of Terre Haute! Our goal is to keep our community safe!

At 11:53 today, HCFD responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a building. Our initial units arrived within two minutes and discovered that a vehicle had jumped the parking curb and impacted the building's corner. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by the vehicle's occupants or those within the building. The building incurred moderate damage to its structural components. TAC 91, our structural collapse response trailer, arrived on scene and performed emergency shoring operations to stabilize the building. Crews operated for approximately one and a half hours. The building has been turned over to the Vigo County Building Inspector and the owners for necessary repairs.

Parents — bulky coats can jeopardize a snug fit in a car seat harness. Blankets are a good alternative to a heavy, puffy coat, which can cause the car seat harness to not fit snugly. 🧒✔️
