Ages 13 & Up: Your smartphone can take crisp pictures for your favorite social media feed, but traditional DSLR and mirrorless cameras capture more detail, offer interchangeable lenses, and provide settings that give you superior control over your images. With so many options, a traditional camera may even feel overwhelming—but it doesn’t have to be! LaRysa Whitace, founder and owner of Images Photography, will take you through the basics of using DSLR and mirrorless cameras, and discuss what various settings are as well as when to use them. Bring your own camera with you if you have specific questions about its functions.

🎒 While your little ones are busy learning, what’s a stuffie to do all day? If you’re Patches, you go on a library adventure! 🐶

When a new first grader was worried his favorite stuffie, Patches, would be bored while he was at school, his mom brought Patches to the library! ✨ He got his library card, explored Youth Services, checked out 3D prints in Haute Create, visited meeting rooms, rode the automated book return, smelled the flowers, helped with a little mowing, and more!

And guess what? You can have library adventures, too! 📚✨

Whether you’re looking for a place to learn, create, play, explore, or simply spend some time, there’s something for everyone at the library. So while school is back in session, don’t forget to make the library part of your after-school adventures!

Another perfect afternoon Snackin' with Alpacas! 🥪🦙📚

We couldn't have asked for better weather for our afternoon of sack lunches, an alpaca-themed storytime, and plenty of fun learning all about the herd from Farmer Tara! A huge THANK YOU to the White Violet Center for Eco-Justice for making this summer's alpaca adventures so much fun!

The community is honoring another icon today.

Actor Tim Curry gave us groundbreaking performances that span generations. He made almost any role unforgettable. Some of his highlights include: Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Wadsworth in Clue, and Pennywise in It. He also proved the old saying true: “There are no bit parts, only small actors,” with memorable roles in films like Annie and Home Alone 2.

Tim was also an accomplished voice actor, playing featured roles in shows such as The Wild Thornberrys, Gargoyles, and Phineas and Ferb. His work extended beyond film and television, encompassing a diverse range of projects.

He received three Tony Award nominations for his stage work. He also lent his voice acting skills to a variety of video games, including Dragon Age: Origins. He even released a studio album and had a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping hit.

Thank you for a lifetime of amazing performances. His legacy will live on through the joy and laughter his work will provide to generations to come.

The 1960s promised a new era of convenience and exotic flavors for working housewives. Alongside the popular explosion of French food, Swedish meatballs, and fondue, American housewives stocked their refrigerators with savory gelatine salads, their freezers with TV dinners, and their pantries with onion soup mix. Join Purdue Extension’s Gail Wright for a look at how 1960s cooking evolved from “scratch” to “semi-scratch,” while enjoying a classic pot roast updated for the modern home cook.

Today, the community remembers the life, legacy and impact of country star Dolly Parton.

Dolly used her unmistakable voice to create hits that touched several generations of people. From “Jolene” to “9 to 5” to “I Will Always Love You,” her music became part of the fabric of American culture. Beyond music, Dolly was also an accomplished actress, starring in films like Steel Magnolias, 9 to 5, and Joyful Noise. Her cultural impact even extended to Dollywood, the theme park she helped create.

But while her work on center stage left an undeniable mark, what Dolly did away from the spotlight may be one of her most lasting legacies.

Dolly was the brainchild behind the Imagination Library, an initiative that provides books to children around the world. Since its creation in 1995, the Imagination Library has gifted more than 300 million books to more than 3 million children.

Thank you, Dolly. Your music, charm and commitment to literacy have touched generations. May your work continue to inspire and help people write the chapters of their own lives.
