The annual Tri-County W**d Tour will take place on Thursday, July 10, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. This year the tour will take place in Baker, Montana, 22 Ag Lane on the West end of town. Private and Commercial/Governmental pesticide applicator license recertification credits are available for program attendees.

Since the early 1990’s the Prairie, Fallon, and Wibaux County Extension Offices and W**d Districts have teamed together to put on the Tri-County W**d Tour. Many years the tour has taken place in the Cabin Creek area where the three counties intersect.

This year the tour will take place in Baker for the opportunity to view a site with two w**ds of interest, absinth wormwood and poison hemlock. The first presentation will be by MSU Extension Agent David Kirschten discussing identifying characteristics of these w**ds and their management.

Dr. Anish Sapkota, MSU Assistant Professor in Precision Agriculture, will talk about current tools and variable rate technologies available for w**d control in precision farming. Dr. Sapkota’s colleague, Dr. Janack Joshi will highlight his research on disease resistance of crucial Montana ag crops.

The final presentation of the afternoon will be integrated pest management presented by Kelli Back, MSU Extension Agent in Wibaux County. Strategies and methods for a sustainable approach to managing pests, focusing on minimizing the use of pesticides and chemicals to reduce risk.

For more information about the Tri-County W**d Tour, contact the MSU Extension Office in Prairie County at 406-635-2121.
