There are 3 sirens sounds that you may hear.
1. Long steady tone
2. Fast Wail
3. Slow Wail

Number 1 is to be used for peacetime emergencies to include the following;
Flood Warnings
Flash Flood Warnings
Tornado Warnings
Hazardous Materials Release (anhydrous ammonia cloud, chlorine gas cloud, etc)
Any other major emergency that happens during peacetime.

Number 2 is the Fire Siren and is used for other purposes such as a local fire signal

Number 3 is an alarm that you will not hear very often if ever. It is used when there is a confirm attack against the United States.

Please keep in mind that the sirens are really to let you know to go indoors and find a safe place. Monitor the news and or weather, and as always you can call the Sheriff’s Office if you have any questions.

Due to the high fire risk this year, Fireworks are banned in Prairie County, with the exception of the public display at the baseball fields in Terry. If you would like to watch the fireworks show please come down and enjoy it. If you would like to shoot off your fireworks, you are welcome to come to the baseball area and shoot them off with others of the community.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and the decision did not come lightly.
