Thank you to the Elks 399 for conducting a supplies and food drive for us! They also hosted us recently for our annual Bag Toss tournament fundraiser. They are an example of how kind our community is. We appreciate everyone who has shown us support this summer to help provide much needed supplies.

We've recently incurred an expensive set of commercial washer repairs and need to start saving money to replace the washer when something goes wrong with it in the future since it is nearing its life expectancy. The cost of a new commercial washer with longterm reliability and that will match the size of the larger dryer we have (to accommodate the large amount of residents we have) is a little over $20,000 (including all fees). We've already looked into options/secured quotes in order to know what to plan for. If you were to take a peek inside our current washer, it is surprisingly small compared to the need. We've been averaging 120 residents regularly, sometimes more, and 13 years ago when this washer was purchased, there were not as many homeless individuals at Randy Sams. We wash all the residents' clothes, bedding, towels, and incoming clothing donations.

It costs a lot to run the shelter, and this is just one of many examples of repair, maintenance and purchase costs we encounter that are required to keep our shelter running optimally, and to meet the needs of the many residents we serve every day.

Our 6th Annual “Invitational Bag Toss Tournament” fundraiser held at the Elks Lodge (No. 399) on Garland Ave. was a fun success!

A total of 22 teams participated and were divided into an open (advanced) division of 7 teams, and a novice (beginner to moderate) division of 15 teams.

1st Place:

2nd Place:
Novice: Jamie Morgan & Dora Briley (Team Ledwell)
Open: Brittany & Jase Lockeby (Team BWI)

Novice: Kadyn Green & Cliff Harvin (Team Ledwell)
Open: Jimmy Whorton & Cory Clements (Team Ledwell)

Thank you to everyone who participated and came out to show support, and thank you to Vickie and John Weeks with the Elks Lodge 399 for MC'ing the tournament!

Friday, a few of our LNKTXK board members stopped by Randy Sams Outreach Shelter with a pallet of bottled water to help meet an immediate community need. 💙

With the summer heat in full swing, access to clean drinking water is more important than ever. Randy Sams is currently running very low on bottled water, and every donation can make a real difference for those they serve.

Our numbers have stayed very high this year, and we have gone through supplies more quickly. Keep in mind the summer heat makes water and Gatorade more critical to give out to area homeless 24/7 in the heat. Please share. Thank you for your help. 🙏🏼
