Please be advised that the depot will be conducting prescribed burns January through May as weather allows. Burns are conducted annually for timber stand improvement, wildlife habitat management and to help protect the depot from destructive wildfires. The depot land managers are always mindful of potential smoke impacts to the depot and the local communities, and try to minimize those impacts as much as possible. Proper notifications are made each morning of a burn.

We want to answer a few frequently asked questions about inclement weather as it pertains to #TeamRedRiver.

How does the inclement weather process work?
Our Director for Emergency Services will monitor the local weather channels and direct RRAD police to assess depot road conditions. From this local assessment and in consultation with our Commander, the DES will disseminate mission-critical information to the workforce pertaining to local road conditions and any command decisions, such as implementation of the depot's liberal leave policy.

Where can I find information about the status of #TeamRedRiver during inclement weather?
Inclement weather information can be found by calling the RRAD Line at 903-334-2444. We will also provide updates on this page. (Red River Army Depot)

What steps should I take if a liberal leave policy is put into place due to inclement weather?
If the depot should go into a liberal leave policy, team members must notify supervisors of their plans. Despite RRAD road conditions, all employees must use good judgement and evaluate the roads in their areas prior to making any decisions on taking leave or reporting for work.

Did you know for decades #TeamRedRiver has spearheaded the effort to inspire local students to remain drug free? The depot’s Community Support Office provides ribbons to local schools for Red Ribbon Week each year.

Not only does the depot provide the ribbons, but we also show our support with depot members wearing them as well.

Beginning in 1985, the Red Ribbon Campaign was created to honor the life of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Salazar, a drug enforcement administration agent who was killed in Mexico. The campaign is the largest drug-abuse prevention operation in the nation.

Yesterday, BG Darren L. Werner, commanding general of the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, toured Red River Army Depot. This was Werner’s first visit since taking command in June.

“While we are dealing with a global pandemic, you (Red River) are maintaining a consistent pace, a consistent drum beat and consistently delivering the needs of the Army,” Werner said. “You should be very proud of that.”

During the day, the general toured several depot facilities including: the new tire facility, the Heavy Tactical production area, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle production area, the wiring harness repair facility and the Rubber Products Division. Werner also visited a storage facility at the DLA Defense Distribution-Red River.

Werner was accompanied by Command SGM Jerry M. Charles, Wendy Saigh, chief counsel and Michael Szajenko, deputy chief counsel.

Before departing the depot, Werner held two listening sessions with various Team Red River employees and thanked several team members by presenting a commanding general coin.
