Our local Albertsons stores in Texarkana have started their #turkeybucks program to benefit families in need this Holiday season! Visit either Albertsons location (3710 N State Line, Texarkana, AR and 4415 W 7th St, Texarkana, TX) and purchase "Turkey Bucks" at checkout to help food insecure families in our area enjoy a full holiday meal this Thanksgiving or Christmas. Please join us in congratulating our very own, Erickah Mathis, in her new role as Food Sourcing Coordinator, for Harvest Regional Food Bank. "I enjoy being a part of a team whose mission is to help those who are less fortunate," according to Erickah. "I am excited to share what it is we do with local food retailers and suppliers, and to spread the word on how important our work is."

Erickah started her time with Harvest, as Administrative Coordinator, and soon added Volunteer Coordinator to her duties. Now, as Food Sourcing Coordinator, Erickah will be in charge of securing food for all Harvest programs, through our vendors, retail donors and local farmers.

"I absolutely love my work team, and I look foward to this new opportunity to bring more food to Harvest, so we can continue helping to end hunger across our region."

District 5830 was recently awarded a $25,000 Disaster Grant in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Another Donation was made today to the Harvest Texarkana Regional Food Bankwhich was selected to receive $3,500 of the grant because of their impact in the Northeast Texas regional area.

Texas and Arkansas have the highest rate of children in households without consistent access to food. Almost half of the people Harvest Texarkana serves live in households with at least one working adult. Of the people Harvest Texarkana feeds every year, 39% are children under the age of 18. Over one hundred local hunger relief agencies depend on Harvest Texarkana to help feed their clients and/or fill request for sacks of groceries. Every year, over 5 million pounds of edible food goes to waste in the Texarkana area. Harvest Texarkana responsible for: o 2010- 4.7 million pounds of food o 2009- 2.6 million pounds of food o 2008- 1.5 million pounds of food
