TAFD would like to congratulate Dan Thompson on his promotion to Captain and Tate Gore on his promotion to Engineer.
Due to recent events, TAFD would like to remind everyone to keep safety first when using portable generators. Portable generators are great tools for providing emergency power but can be deadly if misused. Please view the video below from the Portable Generators Manufacturers' Association for safety tips.
Take your generator outside.
Congratulations to Captain Michael Haynes, FF Tyler Gilliam, and FF Clark Hicks for receiving the Naloxone Life Saving Award from the University of Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute.
TAFD would like to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas.
TAFD would like to congratulate Firefighter Mason Belk for completing his probationary period. Mason had the honor of his wife, Bethany Belk, to pin his badge.
TAFD would like to wish everyone a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.
Use NFPA’s Thanksgiving safety tips to keep your family safe and help prevent cooking fires.
TAFD and the City of Texarkana, AR are aware of several warning sirens not functioning. We are in the process of working with contractors to both repair any non-functional sirens and also increase the coverage area of the City. Warning sirens are just one way of notifying people outdoors of approaching dangerous weather. We encourage every citizen with a cell phone to sign up for Code Red Emergency Alerts at the following link https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/9CE5BBCCF212
TAFD would like to recognize our new Chaplain, Brother Donnie Edwards. Bro. Donnie is the Lead Pastor at Legacy Baptist Church in Genoa. We are grateful to have this man of God volunteer his time to fill this vital position within our department. We would also like to thank the members of Legacy Baptist Church for blessing this mission.
TAFD would like to congratulate our 2021 Firefighter of the Year - Firefighter Nathan Reeves. Nathan was cited for bravery shown when he was trapped by a collapsing porch during a fire. Nathan suffered a serious leg injury on this incident. He worked hard on rehabilitation and returned to full duty much earlier than expected. TAFD is fortunate to have Firefighter Reeves on our department and is proud to name him our Firefighter of the Year.
TAFD personnel had a great time teaching fire safety to all of our TASD Elementary Schools during Fire Prevention Week. The students watched a fire safety video, practiced stop, drop, and roll, and learned basic fire safety tips. Fun activities included watching two of TAFD's best race to put their gear on and, of course, getting to meet FirePup.
TAFD would like to thank Adam Dalby, manager of the city's parks and recreation. and the Texarkana Youth Softball Association for recently hosting a tournament dedicated to raising funds for the fire and police departments. Each department received $1800 from this tournament! TAFD intends to use this money to support our honor guard.
Mrs. Lewis, our Administrative Assistant Marian Holder's mom, dropped off breakfast for the guys downtown today. Amazing how some people just get up in the morning and decide to do something nice for other people.
Our newest brush truck is almost ready to go in service. Brush 5 will mostly respond along and North of I30. This unit has a bumper turret which should help protect our firefighters while operating along I30 and other highways. It's much safer to fight fire from inside the truck when you are around fast-moving traffic.
Proud of our guys! Dedicated husbands, fathers, and firefighters.
Engineer Daniel Thiels honoring those who lost their lives trying to save others.
Texarkana Arkansas Fire Department Engineer Daniel Thiels tackling the steps of War Memorial today to honor those who lost their lives 20 years ago. #neverforget #Littlerockstairclimb
On Saturday, September 11th, these three finely tuned firefighters will represent TAFD at the Little Rock 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb (https://www.littlerockstairclimb.com/. Left to right is Engineer Josh Moore, Engineer Daniel Thiels, and FF Nathan Reeves. This event is held to honor the public safety officers that lost their lives on 9/11/2001. We are very fortunate and honored to have these three men represent us. Please visit the event site for further information.
Prayers were answered recently as Engineer Dan Thompson was able to leave the hospital after a long battle with Covid! We know that he still has a long recovery ahead of him but we look forward to when he can return to work.
TAFD would like to invite everyone to the Little 1st Responder Costume Contest at the Gateway Farmers Market on July 24th. This should be a fun time for the kids, we will have trucks on scene. Details below.
Bittersweet day at TAFD. Bitter because our Chaplain, Brother Craig Jenkins, is moving on. Sweet, because we know he is following God's call to serve at the Arkansas Baptist State Convention. Chaplain Craig always did an excellent job for our department. He will be missed. The Texarkana, AR Firefighter's Association and Chief David Fletcher presented Brother Craig a plaque in honor of his service.

TAFD would like to congratulate Fire Marshal Jim Wall on his completion of the Fire Investigation Essentials course at the National Fire Academy.
A-Crew, with assistance from Texas Quint 1, did an excellent job of confining and extinguishing a fire at a downtown restaurant. Units spent several hours putting out hot spots and clearing the buildings of smoke all while dealing with the oppressive heat and humidity.
Well we had a good run of below average temperatures but the heat and humidity has showed up with a vengeance. TAFD would like to remind everyone (especially our firefighters) to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay informed of weather conditions. Tips for preventing heat-related illness can be found at this CDC link.

Congratulations to Mason Belk for his recent graduation from the AR Fire Academy. We wish him a long and successful career.
Brittany, Le'Ana, and Treasure met with the crew responsible for rescuing them from a house that a very large tree had fell on. It is a blessing to see them doing well and we are grateful they took the time to visit and thank the guys..
Good work from the guys under tough conditions.
“It’s pretty much a miracle that they were alive with the tree being on top of them with the way they were”
After a long break due to the COVID pandemic, TAFD will be resuming our annual fire safety inspections of all commercial buildings in Texarkana, AR. Reasons for an annual inspection program are identification of hazards and preplanning to ensure the safety of first responders, improve safety of the public and occupants, and ensure proper operation of fire alarm and suppression systems. Please contact us if you have any questions concerning our inspection program.
TAFD would like to congratulate Kristi Bennett as the new TAPD Chief! We look forward to working with her to make Texarkana a great, and safe, place to live.
