Fire personnel are currently battling a 15 acre fire.
6 volunteer fire departments have been paged to the area of Orr Road and State Highway 32 for a large grass fire.
Please avoid this area as there will be multiple first responders in the area trying to get the fire out and prevent loss of property.
UPDATE** 1:30pm
This fire scene has now progressed to encompass nearly 100 acres leading to an all page. Which means every fire department in Love County is being paged out to try and get this fire under control.
Please stay away from the area as responder traffic will increase and could cause significant congestion and potentially chaotic travel for responders who are trying to work to get this fire put out.
UPDATE** 1:45pm
We have called on our neighboring partners in Carter and Jefferson Counties to respond and assist.
The fire is moving west. Deputies and other law enforcement will begin contacting homes in the path and advising to evacuate.
FINAL UPDATE** 5:15pm
All of our neighbors from out of state and out of County have cleared from the area. There are still Love County personnel in the area looking for hot spots but for the most part the fire is contained and controlled. There will be smoke a smoldering for quite awhile with how large the fire was. No homes and no lives were lost thankfully. Fire professionals guesstimate 500 acres to have been involved.
Think of how terrible it could have been without the wonderful men and women that make up our VOLUNTEER fire departments. If you have the availability and are willing to help protect your community, consider joining your local volunteer fire department. They are struggling to find volunteers and are willing to train you and get you all the supplies you need.
Thank you to each and every responders that came to Love Countu today to help us in our time of need. It is very appreciated and we will undoubtedly return the favor anytime you need.
