It is with deep sorrow that the Town of Thaxton learned today of the passing of our beloved Town Marshall, O’Neil Warren. He served his community as Marshall for nearly 15 years and was a dear friend for a lifetime. Please pray for O’Neil’s family in the days to come.

With the storm over its time to clean up. If you decide to burn the limbs, please remember to never leave it unattended. The grass is dry and it doesn't take long to spread. We have already had multiple fires due to this.

Yesterday afternoon, NE SPARC’s mainline fiber was cut at the intersection of CR 271, Bethel Church Road, and Highway 6 East. This damage did not only interrupt internet service for our subscribers, it also directly hindered ongoing power restoration efforts.

North East Power relies on its fiber network for Smart Grid operations and crew communications. When this infrastructure is damaged, it creates delays in restoration and introduces serious safety risks for crews working in the field.

Repairs to a mainline fiber typically cost $25,000 or more. Any individual or company responsible for cutting our fiber lines will be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law.

One week down. But we are not done yet. How is everyone doing? We know many still are without power. The power crews are working everyday to return electricity.

If you don't have to be on the roadways, please stay home! As the snow continues and temperatures drop our roads are going to be slick. Ice patches and ice will be forming especially on bridges and overpasses. Emergency response from Sheriff's, Fire, and EMS may be delayed.

If you must drive, turn on your headlights and slow down far below the maximum posted speed limit. Speed limits are the maximum safe speed you may drive in optimal conditions.
