Although Cindy and I raised alpacas for more than 10 years and in two states, we have retired our farm and no longer have alpacas at our farm. We hope that all our alpaca friends continue to keep in touch - we miss you all. Having both retired professionally we now look forward to traveling and enjoying the many things we have dreamed about. Please keep in touch and come visit us when in the area - we have not moved.

Just wanted to update you all on our retirement and the new kids on the block. Rose and Truffles are both doing great, growing like weeds and developing fiber that is unbelievable. We knew these crosses would bring us incredible crias but didn't imagine that they would be this great. These are the last two breeding that we will do as we work hard to retire our alpaca business - and they gave us the best of the best. Retirement moves forward at glacial speed and we are challenged on the farm more each day because of health issues. Selling alpacas, even our finest animals, has been an uphill battle as folks all seem to be looking for high quality at unbelievable prices. Our web page reflects reasonable prices but we are willing to even negotiate even those. I guess that is all we can do, offer quality at reasonable prices. We have been invited again to participate in a live Nativity display at a Roanoke church and are really looking forward to this wonderful event. It is a drive-through with many stations - our alpacas are featured with the shepherds and we are delighted. That's it for now, more soon.

WOW we did it again. We just had two crias that are the best of the best. On 9/26 our silver gray Destiny had a rose gray female (OPA Contessa Rose) with A Paca Fun Farm's Ridiculous and two days later Diachannel had a medium brown female (OPA Lady Truffels) with Crescent Moon's Sixtus (OPA Lady Truffles). See photos posted - can you guess which one is which? They are spectacular crias with exact conformation and exquisite fiber. It just doesn't get any better. For over 11 years now Cindy and I have worked very hard to improve the quality of our herd through careful breeding and caring husbandry to bring out the best quality - these girls are prime examples of our labors. We will be publishing messages in the near future that follow the progress of these fantastic girls. We invite you to come visit us at the farm and see first hand what is possible. We just love all our alpacas and are very happy with these new additions! This is so exciting for both of us.

As Christmas rapidly approaches Cindy and I want to wish everyone a very blessed Christmas and enjoyable times with friends and family. We also want to share a wonderful time we had with our alpacas in an outdoor live nativity and gospel display at the Parkway House of Prayer in Roanoke. Our alpacas were featured in one of 9 displays along a drive circuit at the church. They were with the angel who announced to the shepherds Christ's birth. We thank pastor Dave for inviting us and look forward to next year as we reach out to the community and spread God's word.

WE DID IT AGAIN! Had a great time at the Richard's dairy farm at their Corn Maze in Forrest, VA (see photo). Those things are wild. The day was sunny and folks gathered around to learn about our alpacas and see examples of products that are made of alpaca fiber. A real educational opportunity and fun too! We are going back since they are open through October (check here often for our schedule). We continue to reach out to the community to teach them about alpacas and our farm operations. Stay tuned we are on cria-cria-cria watch - yes we are expecting 3 in the next few days. We will let everyone know when the new ones arrive - please come out to see the babies.

CATCHING UP! We have been very busy in September and it is continuing into October. We had several visits by students from Liberty High School who are majoring in agricultural-related careers (see pictures). We have also scheduled (in about a week) another visit from Liberty High students in the Animal Systems and Veterinary Science class: an educational event and picnic. We also opened our farm to the public for National Alpaca Farm Days (September 27-28). What a great time we had. Lots of visitors wanting to learn about alpacas and our farm operations. As an Alpaca Mentor Farm in VA we had an exciting time. Finally we are off to the Richards Farm Maze in Forrest to participate this weekend - that will be as kick. No slacking up since we have 3 cria due in about a week. This is great fun. Stay tuned - you never know what will happen here at Otter peaks Alpacas.

We had a blast at the Sedalia Center County Fair & Gathering this last weekend. We brought Hot Shot and Pavlo (see picture) with us and they thrilled the crowd. Cindy had her products (see picture) and it was great to have the alpacas and to show folks what can be done with the fiber. Alpacas were new to many and it was fun talking about these wonderful animals and how we care for them at our farm. Now we are off again this Saturday (September 13) since we have been invited to participate in the Montvale, VA Fall Festival to be held at 1182 Pike Road. Cindy and I really like talking to folks about alpacas, answering questions and meeting people who are interested in these great animals. We are looking forward to this big event - come see us if you can.

LOOK WHO JUST JOINED OTTER PEAKS ALPACAS: ELK Cagey Girl is our newest addition to the farm. She is the daughter of LMFI Peruvian Black Midnight leading back to Jericho and Jeremiah on Dad's side and CCNF Man In Black on Mom's. WOW are we excited to have this super girl. Cindy and I continue to seek the highest quality genetics in our herd and this young girl is a very big step in that direction - straight up! Look at the picture we posted - how could you not love this little teddy bear face and fuzzy ears.
