Thayer Fire Department The Thayer Fire Department is a paid-per-call based department, providing fire protection and rescue to the City of Thayer and surrounding rural areas.

The Thayer Fire Department is comprised of 21 active Paid-Per-Call Firefighters including the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief and three Captains. The dept. currently operates with 1 station and 6 apparatus which include 2 Engines, 2 Brush Trucks, a Tanker and a Light Duty Rescue. The department also utilizes 1 support UTV shared with the Police Department. The Thayer Fire Department is governed by two seperate, but equally important bodies. The Thayer City Council governs and oversees finances within the City of Thayer. The Thayer Rural Fire Dept. Board is responsible for finance outside the city in the rural area. Regardless of area, the department is fully staffed and equipped to respond to an emergency.

The Thayer Fire Department responded to two large brush fires yesterday in the area of Hwy 142 and County Road 249. After assessing the area today, the total acreage affected by the fire is estimated to be around 400 acres.

We want to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the fire departments, agencies, community members and other responders who came out to assist us. There were simply too many departments, organizations and community members to mention individually, and we would never want to leave anyone out. Your help, manpower, equipment, and dedication are truly appreciated.

A special shout-out tonight goes to the football boys! They came by and washed the fire trucks this evening, so don't worry — the trucks have been cleaned up for the parade tomorrow!

We appreciate everyone who helped, everyone who supported the firefighters, and our community for always coming together when it's needed.

ATTENTION!!
Several grass fires have broken out over the last couple of days around the Thayer, Kosh, Thomasville, and Brandsville areas. Our local firefighters and first responders are working incredibly hard, and crews are currently responding to multiple fires.
Please do your part to help keep our communities — and our first responders — safe:

DO NOT throw ci******es out of your vehicle.
NO open burning of ANY kind.
If you're pulling a trailer, make absolutely sure your chains are secure and not dragging on the pavement.
Please be extremely careful when traveling through areas where emergency crews are working.
If firefighters, EMS, or other emergency vehicles are parked close to the road, SLOW DOWN and give them plenty of room.

A careless spark can turn into a dangerous fire in a matter of minutes,
and every fire puts our firefighters, EMS personnel,
and other first responders in harm's way.
They are out there protecting us. Please help protect them.
We just want every one of our local first responders to make it
home safely to their families.

We’ll be set up at the Thayer Elementary School Friday evening 5:30pm - 7:00pm for Big Truck Night to answer questions. We'll also have a fire truck for the kids to explore.
