We are very grateful for the Thanksgiving giveaway we were able to participate in this year. Our sincere thanks to the Mott Haven Community Partnership for their collaboration and support. Many families and community members stopped by, and their appreciation was truly felt.
A big shout-out to the Storefront Academy team, the Mott Haven Community Partnership team, and our amazing volunteers for making this event a success.
Happy Thanksgiving! 🧡🦃

In Unit 2, our scholars learned what it means to be a good citizen. They read the following books: Every Dog in the Neighborhood by Philip E. Stead, Sophia Valdez Future Prez by Andrea Beaty, and Tree Lady by H. Joseph Hopkins. Each scholar was asked to identify an issue (problem) in our community that we want to change and write about it. After identifying and agreeing that our community is impacted by the number of dog owners who do not clean up their dog’s p**p, we decided to take action.
We began discussing solutions to our issue. Our scholars agreed on three solutions: 1) raising awareness through a protest, 2) gaining support by signing a petition, and 3) asking City Hall to provide p**p bags for owners. Each student was paired or grouped with a protest buddy. They all created posters with slogans and illustrations to communicate a message and raise awareness in the community.
