The 47th Precinct would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the officers who attended the St. Luke’s Police Recognition Ceremony. Your presence, dedication, and commitment to serving and protecting our communities do not go unnoticed.

It was a privilege to come together and recognize the men and women who continue to demonstrate courage, professionalism, and compassion in the line of duty. Thank you for your continued service and sacrifice and for being an important part of the communities you serve.

We remember our 47th Precinct brother, Police Officer Michael C. Williams, who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 21, 2014.

Police Officer Williams was traveling with eight fellow 47th Precinct officers in a marked Department vehicle when they were involved in a single-vehicle collision in the Bronx. Officer Williams sustained critical injuries and later succumbed to those injuries.

At just 25 years old, Officer Williams had fulfilled his dream of joining the NYPD and following in the footsteps of his father, a retired police officer. He was posthumously awarded the Department’s Purple Shield.

His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The 47th Precinct joined the 47th Precinct Community Council for its September General Meeting and the opening of the 2026–2027 season. Our Commanding Officer, Inspector Muhammad J. Ashraf, along with our Special Operations supervisors, addressed the community and discussed public safety concerns. We also proudly recognized our June, July, and August Cops of the Month for their outstanding service. Thank you to everyone who attended and continues to support our community.

We remember our 47th Precinct brother, Police Officer Hector Fontanez-Diaz, who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 12, 1991.

Officer Fontanez-Diaz was shot and killed while pursuing an armed suspect on Eastchester Road in the Bronx. Despite being mortally wounded, he returned fire and struck the armed suspect.

A five-year veteran of the NYPD and member of the 47th Precinct, his courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

As the sun sets, we are reminded that for so many, September 11, 2001, never reached an ordinary end. Thousands never returned home to their loved ones, while first responders, recovery workers, and countless others continued their work at Ground Zero for months to come.

Tonight, we remember those we lost, those who answered the call, and those who carried the weight of that day long after the sun went down.

We will never forget. God bless America.

Today, the 47th Precinct conducted a solemn roll call in remembrance of the 23 members of the NYPD who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Their names, their service, and their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
