One of the biggest sources of stormwater pollution in Texas? Pet waste. When left on the ground, rain can wash it into storm drains and straight into our creeks, parks and lake.

Doo the right thing: scoop the p**p. Bag it, then trash it. 🗑

Take it from the dogs: It’s a small act that helps keep TC safe and clean! 🐕🐾

This week's heat has been intense and jumping into water to cool down sounds like a great idea... just make sure you do so safely.

Water wings or floaties can create a false sense of security for parents when their child is near water. They are designed as toys, NOT safety devices, and can slip off or keep kids in an unnatural vertical position for swimming.

Only use a U.S. Coast Guard-Approved life jacket and actively watch your kids around water.

Grass clippings left in the road aren't just messy, they're a water quality problem. While grass clippings, tree leaves and other yard waste are natural, they still pollute our local waterways. As yard waste breaks down or decomposes in a local creek, stream or lake, it depletes the oxygen in the water. Aquatic life need oxygen to survive. If oxygen levels become too low, fish and other aquatic life cannot survive.

The fix is simple. Sweep or blow clippings out of the street after mowing. Then dispose of them the right way:

🍃 Leave them in your yard or compost it
🌻 Use them as mulch in garden beds
🗑️ Gather them for green waste pickup

County-wide burn ban in effect: Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires, even with today's brief showers. Read more information below.

A county-wide burn ban is in effect beginning today, Aug. 25, 2026, for all of Denton County, including The Colony.

The burn ban prohibits all outdoor burning and also includes restrictions on:
🚫 Outdoor hot work, including welding and cutting torch operations
🚫 The use of certain combustible materials
🚫 Other activities identified in the burn ban order that may create an increased fire hazard

Dry conditions across Denton County have significantly increased the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires, even with today's brief showers.

Everyone is encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could produce heat, sparks, or open flame.
