Wow, community — you showed up! All of our Back‑to‑School backpacks have been claimed and promised out. We don’t have any more available, but we’re excited to get these supplies into the hands of our students!

You may have heard about a harmful proposal to bury and operate a 100-mile, high-voltage power cable underneath the Columbia River. Friends of the Columbia Gorge is opposing this project, called the Cascade Renewable Transmission Project, because it is prohibited by the National Scenic Area Rules. In addition, the developers behind this project have failed to resolve numerous concerns regarding impacts to the Columbia River ecosystem, Tribal treaty resources, water quality, and fish and wildlife habitat.
This project would require numerous rounds of permits and is currently in the process of obtaining a permit from the Washington State Energy Facility Siting Evaluation Council (EFSEC). Comments are now being accepted regarding whether the proposed facility complies with all applicable land use laws. This is an essential comment opportunity to let EFSEC know that this project is not permitted in the National Scenic Area.
EFSEC needs to hear from as many people as possible that this project cannot be allowed to proceed. Submit your comment by Wednesday, August 26 at 5 p.m.

📣 Heads up, community!
Tomorrow, Aug 27th, Nch’i Wána Housing will be closed for Employee Wellness Day so our team can recharge.

We’ll be back open Friday during normal hours!

🎒 Backpack Pickup Reminder:
If you signed up for a backpack, pickup will be Friday, 9am–4pm (closed 12:30–1pm) at the Gloria Center.

📣 Closure Notice – Labor Day Weekend
Nch’i Wána Housing will be closed Friday, September 4th and Monday, September 7th in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Normal operations will resume Tuesday, September 8th.
