Help us fight this noxious w**d, which is common in The Dalles.

The attached photo shows the growing stages of puncture vine; commonly known as goat head.

To remove puncture this vine: DIG or PULL up plant(s) and seeds, BAG and DISPOSE. DO NOT mow or w**d trim as it will spread seeds.

Did you know that property owners are responsible for vegetation control throughout their property and vegetation that encroaches the public right-of-way (street, alley, sidewalk, planting strip, curbs).

Reference: The Dalles Municipal Code: Title 5 Offense, Chapter 5.24(3) Noxious Vegetation.

To report uncontrolled puncture vine you can contact:

The puncture vine growth this year is above average and controlling this w**d is only possible if everyone pitches in for the good of our community.

We were honored to be invited aboard the American Cruise Line ship on August 11th for a firsthand look at the vessel and an opportunity to learn more about the safety and security considerations that come with welcoming cruise passengers to our community. The tour of the ship was educational to say the least.

As The Dalles continues to receive international recognition and welcomes more visitors from around the world, it is important that we, as a public safety agency, continue to adapt, prepare, and find ways to better serve both our community and its guests. Preparation is essential, and that was the primary reason for our visit.

We met some great people aboard the ship and gained valuable insight into how the crew prepares for and responds to situations that could arise. Having that firsthand knowledge and understanding is an important part of making sure we are prepared to work together should the need ever arise.

The City of The Dalles is fortunate to be included on the American Cruise Line itinerary, and our department will continue doing everything we can to help ensure the safety of our visitors, cruise passengers, and our community.

And yes, we know…Captain Mathew looks like he’s about 14 years old! 😂 But we quickly learned that he has a pretty impressive and lengthy career in the maritime industry.

A big thank you to American Cruise Line, Captain Mathew, his crew, Patrick (Security) and everyone who took the time to welcome us aboard and share their knowledge with us.

Most importantly, thank you to our community—and to all of our “guests”—for putting your trust in us. We’re proud to serve The Dalles and look forward to continuing to work together to keep our community safe.

***Update-This sticky fingered suspect has been identified. That you for all the tips***

**Do you know me?**
This lonely gentleman stole over $500 worth of “self entertainment devices” from a local business. He has a distinct tattoo on his left calf. If you recognize him please call The Dalles Police Department at (541) 296-2613 and ask for Detective Castro. An alternative method would be to use our anonymous tip feature, Tip411, by typing “The Dalles Tip411” into any search engine.

Just before 2pm 8-18-26 a grass fire broke out at east 9th and Morton street in The Dalles. Several homes were directly threatened by the flames. Again, MCFR came through and stopped the blaze before any substantial damage occurred.

We cannot stress enough how extreme our fire conditions are here in The Dalles. Be fire safe!

Thank you to Chief Jensen who fought this fire expertly and got his hands dirty alongside his firefighters.

Thanks again to Mid Columbia Fire Rescue for your quick response to todays fire at west 2nd street. Smoke could be seen from many areas of town. The fire was contained to brush, grass and trees. Fuels are EXTREMELY dry and we urge extra caution.
