Northern Wasco County PUD

Northern Wasco County PUD Serving Public Power to our customers in The Dalles, Oregon since April 7, 1949. As our name implies, “people” are what we are all about.

WHO WE ARE

Northern Wasco County People’s Utility District (NWCPUD) is a customer-owned utility that provides nearly 25,000 people and businesses with electricity in Wasco County, Oregon. We take great pride in providing quality electric service at some of the lowest rates in Oregon, the Northwest, and the nation. The 70-plus employees who work at the utility greet each customer with a friendly

smile and provide prompt, efficient, and courteous service. Our customers experience few power outages because our electrical system is well maintained. The electricity that serves a majority of our customers is purchased from the Bonneville Power Administration, a federal power marketing administration that serves over one hundred thirty publicly-owned utilities in the Northwest with low-cost electricity. A substantial amount of energy is also contracted with non-federal suppliers to serve the specialized needs of industrial customers. OUR MISSION

Be the leader in delivering reliable, affordable utility services guided by and accountable to the communities we serve. Customers can report outages or service issues any time of the day or night by calling 541-296-2226. Since the NWCPUD page is not monitored 24/7, making a phone call is the best way to contact us if you have service issues. Electricity is more than just a convenience; it's a cornerstone of modern life. From cooking your favorite meals to streaming your favorite shows, electricity makes it all possible. Powering your everyday moments...that's the value of electricity.

Energy use adds up! Running multiple appliances at the same time can put extra strain on the electric grid during high-use periods. Spacing out large appliances like washers, dryers and dishwashers helps reduce peak demand and helps support a reliable supply of electricity.

⚡️ Outage Update | Final Update

After Thursday night's storm we have re-energized all services that we are able to at this time. If you are still without power, there are two possibilities:

We may not know you're out. If you have not yet spoken with anyone at NWCPUD, please call us at (541) 296-2226 and we will send someone to your location.

Your meter base or service entrance may have been damaged in the storm. If that is the case, repairs must be completed by a licensed electrician before we are able to re-energize your service.

To our line crew, engineering staff, customer service team, and everyone across our organization who jumped in to help — thank you. You worked through a long night and into the next days to restore power to our community, and we could not be more grateful. We are proud of each and every one of you. 💙

Thank you, The Dalles and Wasco County, for your patience and support throughout this event. 🙏

⚡️ Outage Update | Restoration Continues

Last night's lightning storm brought significant damage across our service territory, with crews responding to approximately 50 outage and trouble calls involving lightning strikes, trees contacting power lines, damaged services, and downed wires — and they are still at it this evening.

We want to thank our employees who have worked through the night and continue working to restore power to our communities.

If you are still without power or notice storm-related electrical damage, please contact us at (541) 296-2226. In some cases, a meter base or service entrance may have been damaged in the storm — this type of repair must be completed by a licensed electrician before we are able to re-energize your service.

Crews will continue addressing isolated customer-owner issues and conducting follow-up damage assessments into the night and over the next several days.

⚡️ Outage Update | Restoration Continues

Our crews have been out all night and the work continues. Here's where things stand:

All feeders and known tap lines have been restored and returned to service, and no transmission system damage has been identified. The remaining outages are isolated to individual customers and require hands-on damage repair and follow-up investigation. We currently have 32 customer-owners without power, with the majority of reports coming from within the City of The Dalles service area.

Our team won't stop until everyone is back on. Thank you for your patience — it means a lot to all of us.

Restoration is progressing well — we are now down to approximately 60 customer-owners without power. Crews are currently working in the Blakely area, which should restore about a third of those remaining. From there, we'll move on to individual meters.

Thank you for your continued patience — we won't stop until everyone is back on.
