The Dalles, Oregon – On Tuesday September 8, 2026, the City of The Dalles Public Works crews will begin work on a sewer service renewal project located on Nevada St.

Road closed to thru traffic, including emergency vehicles, on Nevada St. between E 17th St. and E 16th Ct. will remain in place September 8 - 10, 2026. Motor vehicles and bicyclists traveling through the area will be detoured to adjacent streets.

Pedestrian and sidewalk access will remain open through the duration of this work.

Work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on each scheduled work day. Traffic control signs will remain in place after work hours due to an open trench across Nevada St. until the work is complete.

Please proceed with caution in this area during street closures. Please observe all temporary traffic control devices. Thank you for your attention to traveling safety during this work.

No parking will be allowed within the project areas to allow room for large equipment to safely work.

No parking signs will be placed on the curb 48 hours before the project begins.

The Dalles, Oregon – Starting Tuesday September 8, 2026 and lasting through Friday October 2, 2026, The Dalles Public Works crews will be cleaning stormwater catch basins throughout the City. The purpose of this work is to protect property and the environment. Cleaning catch basins allows for efficient drainage into the storm water conveyance system.

Estimated schedule of work:
Week of September 8, 2026: Crews will begin working from the east side of town toward Dry Hollow Road.
Week of September 14, 2026: Crews expect to work from the west side of town toward Cherry Heights Road.
Week of September 21, 2026: Crews expect to clean catch basins between Dry Hollow Road and Cherry Heights Road located south of 4th Street.
Work will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. We ask that you park so that the catch basins are accessible during these hours.

Temporary traffic controls may be put in place during work on any given catch basin.

Please proceed with caution around work areas observe all temporary traffic control devices. Thank you for your assistance with worker and citizen safety in work zones.

The Dalles, Oregon – The week of August 31, 2026, contractors for The Dalles Art Center will begin to refresh the five sun faded murals showcased on The Dalles roundabout located at the convergence of E 3rd Street, E 2nd Street and Brewery Grade. New tile work and other features will also be installed. This project is funded by grant money that the Art Center was able to secure.

Traffic caution signage will be in place until work is complete.

No street closures will be in place during the work, but a safety zone will be designated by cones and tape on the roundabout. Pedestrian and sidewalk access will remain open through the duration of this work.

Work hours are from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on each scheduled work day.

Please proceed with caution in this area. Please stay well clear of the safety zone on the roundabout. Thank you for your attention to traveling safety during this work.

Reminder – Tree Work on Brewery Grade

The Dalles, Oregon – On Thursday August 27, 2026, a City of The Dalles Public Works contractor will cut and remove trees near Brewery Grade.

Intermittent road closures will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday August 27, 2026, and continue throughout the day. Flaggers will stop vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians while trees are felled into the roadway. When the tree debris is cleaned up, flaggers will direct vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians safely through the work zone. Each closure could be in place for up to 30 minutes.

Work hours on the day scheduled will be from 8:00 a.m. until work is complete. The traveling public is advised to use alternate routes when possible.

Please proceed with caution in this area during street closures. Please observe all temporary traffic control devices. Thank you for your attention to traveling safety during this work.

The Dalles, Oregón – El jueves 27 de agosto de 2026, el contratista de Obras Públicas de la Ciudad de The Dalles cortara y retirará árboles cerca de Brewery Grade.

Los cierres intermitentes de carreteras comenzarán a las 8:00 a. m. del jueves 27 de agosto de 2026 y continuarán durante todo el día. Los señaleros detendrán a los vehículos, ciclistas y peatones mientras se talan árboles sobre la calzada. 🌿 August Beautification Award

The Beautification & Tree Committee recognized Marie Connell and Billy O’Keefe for their garden at 223 W. 9th Street.

The garden features colorful flowers, raised vegetable beds, and water-wise landscaping, including drought-tolerant plants growing among a natural basalt outcropping. Marie began restoring the garden after the couple moved to The Dalles in 2018.

Congratulations, Marie and Billy, and thank you for helping make The Dalles a more beautiful place to live!

🌿 Premio de Embellecimiento de Agosto

El Comité de Embellecimiento y Arbolado reconoció a Marie Connell y Billy O’Keefe por su jardín ubicado en 223 W. 9th Street.

El jardín cuenta con flores llenas de color, camas elevadas para cultivar vegetales y áreas diseñadas para aprovechar el agua de manera eficiente. También incluye plantas resistentes a la sequía que crecen entre una formación natural de basalto. Marie comenzó a restaurar el jardín después de que la pareja se mudó a The Dalles en 2018.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS: ROAD CLOSURE EXTENDED
8/17/26 - 9/4/26

Ajax Northwest is continuing construction activities for the First Street Streetscape Project on Union Street between West 1st Street and East 2nd Street. Due to unforeseen water utility work encountered during construction, the road closure on Union Street will be extended through Friday, September 4, 2026.

To safely complete this work, Union Street will remain closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic within the work zone from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, August 17 through September 4, 2026. The roadway will reopen outside of construction hours when safe to do so.

Motorists, pedestrians, businesses, and visitors are encouraged to follow posted detour routes and plan for additional travel time while work is underway. Downtown access will remain available via 2nd Street. Port access will be available via Webber Street.

Ajax Northwest appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as we complete these improvements and the additional utility work necessary to support the project.
