WiSCI Sues in Response to DOD Denial

On Tuesday, August 25, WiSCI filed a lawsuit to demand that DOD adhere to the legally mandated 20-day response time.

WiSCI's FOIA is narrow and specific, asking for specific documents regarding the study of women in combat roles. It is reasonable to expect a quick response.

On Monday, August 17, WiSCI Filed a FOIA request on the Pentagon review that could affect more than 5,000 women in combat arms.

The FOIA seeks records surrounding the scope, methodology, and intended use of the DOD review of women serving in ground combat roles.

A reported Pentagon proposal could dramatically reshape military higher education by ending tenure for civilian faculty and reviewing every course for its direct contribution to warfighting.

WiSCI warns that while readiness-focused education matters, narrowing curricula could weaken academic rigor, critical thinking, faculty expertise, and even put accreditation at risk.

Future military leaders don’t just need tactical proficiency, they need the intellectual breadth to make sound decisions in complex environments.

On June 12, 1948, women earned the right to serve not as temporary replacements in times of war, but as permanent members of the United States Armed Forces. The 78 years since have been a story of barriers broken, doors opened, and generations of women who changed the military by simply refusing to leave.
