We are saddened to hear about the passing of our friend, neighbor, and honorary member of The Plains Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Duvall has been a staple in The Plains and Fauquier community for many years and played a key role in assisting our company purchase Tanker 4 in 2019.

STATEMENT FROM LUCIANA DUVALL

Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.

To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.

🔥The 4 PM Burn Law is in Effect!

Virginia’s 4 PM Burn Law is active to help prevent wildfires during our windiest season from February 15th to April 30th.

🙌 The Golden Rule 🙌 :

No burning before 4:00 PM. You may only burn between 4:00 PM and Midnight.

âś… Before You Strike a Match:

1. Call Dispatch: You MUST notify the Fauquier County Communications Center at 540-347-1313 before you start.

2. Check the Distance: Fires must be at least 50 feet from any structure and 500 feet from neighbors (unless you have their written permission).

3. Stay Present: You must attend your fire at all times until it is completely out.

4. Be Considerate: Burn only when winds are calm to avoid becoming a nuisance to your neighbors.

Debris burning is the #1 cause of forest fires in Virginia—let’s keep our community safe! 🚒💨

Use generators safely if your power is out due to Winter Storm Fern. Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, & fires.

⚠️ NEVER use generators indoors, in a garage, or shed. Deadly carbon monoxide can build up quickly.

⚠️ Place them at least 20 feet from your home, away from windows and vents.

⚠️ Never connect a generator directly to your home's electrical system unless a properly installed transfer switch is in place.

⚠️ Allow generators to cool before refueling and store fuel in an approved container away from your generator.

As the Town of The Plains begins the process of updating their comprehensive plan, we wanted to reflect on 20 years ago and how much has changed. Since the last planning commission many major upgrades have been made to ensure continued improvement to our capabilities.

Staffing:
We have expanded from having 2 career staff personnel 2-3 days a week from 6am to 6pm, to having 3 personnel 24/7/365. Our volunteers have access to more educational opportunities than ever before and are regularly taking classes for continuing medical education, vehicle extrication, technical rescue scenarios, and fire operations.

Building and Grounds:
We have replaced all bay doors for a modern update, renovated our day room, raised the height of our rear bay to accommodate larger apparatus, replaced the asphalt pad in the front of the station with stronger concrete, and most recently added 2 bunk rooms, a bathroom, and another day room area in our upstairs living quarters to accommodate more staffing.

Apparatus:
Since 2005 every single piece of apparatus has been replaced. Our fleet includes a Rescue Engine, Tanker, Reserve Engine, brush truck, 2 ambulances, a gator, chief’s vehicle, and 2 support vehicles.

We thank our community for their continued support over the years and we’re excited to see what is next for our village.
